Northern Ireland Open Day Four Tips

Liam Highfield to win @ 8/11 with Ladbrokes

Swindon's Highfield aims to advance to the Last 16 in Belfast by ending the hopes of former World Champion Ken Doherty.

Highfield, 26, has won both of the previous meetings between the two players, including a 5-0 whitewash in the 2015 Shanghai Masters, and will fancy his chances of maintaining that unbeaten head-to-head record.

Highfield has defeated high quality opposition in Mark Davis and Liang Wenbo en route to this stage, while Doherty has dispatched lowly-ranked Peter Lines and Niu Zhuang.

Dubliner Doherty is likely to have the backing of the Irish crowd, but the value lies with Highfield to continue his impressive run under the radar.

Chris Wakelin -1.5 frames handicap @ 11/10 with Marathonbet

Wakelin looks to book his place in the Last 16 of a world ranking event for only the second time this year by denying six-time world finalist Jimmy White this evening.

Rugby's Wakelin has dropped just one frame in routine wins over Chris Totten and Fang Xiongman so far this week and is out halt the resurgent run of 'The Whirlwind' - for whom victories have proved few and far between this season.

White, who was handed an honorary wildcard at the beginning of the season, edged out Dominic Dale 4-3 before whitewashing Jak Jones to ensure he remains on the baize and out of the Eurosport studio for another day.

Wakelin, who defeated Ronnie O'Sullivan in last year's English Open, has undoubtedly been the more consistent performer of the two recently, and though White has experience in his favour, this could prove a step too far, with the 25-year-old offering value in the handicaps market.

John Higgins v Gary Wilson - Over 5.5 total frames @ 10/11 with William Hill

Four-time World Champion Higgins aims to avert a potential scalp at the Waterfront Hall when he takes on Tyneside cueist Gary Wilson.

Higgins made light work of a potentially tricky clash with Iran's Hossein Vafaei last night, coming through a comfortable 4-1 winner, but will be braced for a tough test over the short format today.

Wilson turned on the style to whitewash former UK Champion Stephen Maguire with a top break of 129 last night and now has his sights set on another Scottish scalp.

Higgins, who is still feeling the effects of jetlag after reaching the Semi-Finals of the Shanghai Masters last week, is unlikely to have things all his own way here, and the best bet looks to be for a minimum of six frames to be played out.

How to bet on the Northern Ireland Open

Betting on the Northern Ireland Open could not be simpler, with a range of pre-match, outright and in-play markets at your fingertips via the majority of leading sports bookmakers.

To place a bet on the Northern Ireland Open, simply go to the home page of your chosen bookmaker on either the desktop site or mobile app and head to the A-Z sports menu.

From there, select Snooker > Northern Ireland Open and locate the match or market you wish place a bet on. Outrights, match coupons for accumulators and in-play markets are then listed on the interface. Compile your bet by clicking on the odds which will then add it to your betslip.

On the bet slip, you can then key in your stake and the type of bet you wish to place, for example, single, double, accumulator. Once your bet has been placed, keep an eye out for the cash-out option while your bets are still open, which is offered by most of the leading firms.

Markets offered on the Northern Ireland Open

Typically, the top bookmakers for snooker in general including William Hill, Betfred and Coral are also the go-to firms for placing bets on the Northern Ireland Open.

Main markets include match result - simply betting on which player will win the tie and frame handicaps - whereby a virtual advantage or disadvantage to either player is awarded in order to even the field, for example a +2.5 frames handicap bet would be for Player A or B to win the match if 2.5 frames were to be added to their final tally.

A two-way market for the total number of frames is a sensible bet if the contest appears too close to call on paper and is not reliant on either player to win. For example backing over 5.5 frames in a best of seven match is covering the total number of frames amounting to either six or seven.

Punters can also bet on the number of centuries breaks in any given match, including a total number for either player or Player A or B to compile the most 100+ breaks. Significant odds of around 25/1 are often available for one player to produce snooker's holy grail - a maximum 147 break.

Other notable snooker betting markets include correct score for those with a precise prediction, as well as whether or not the match will go to a deciding frame.
