The season's form player takes on the sport's greatest ever natural talent in a renewal of a fascinating rivalry and a clash which promises to provide a fitting climax to what has been a memorable tournament.

O'Sullivan finds himself in a fifth Welsh Open title following a week of spectacular showings at the Motorpoint Arena, having previously lifted this title in 2004, 2005 and 2014.

The five-time World Champion has been at his scintillating and seemingly unstoppable best this week, dropping just six frames in as many victories en route to the final.

Having sparked controversy for his decision to opt out of a potential 147 break in his first round win over Barry Pinches, 'The Rocket' went on to defeat Tian Pengfei, Jimmy Robertson, Yu Delu, Mark Selby and Joe Perry with nine centuries along the way.

After reclaiming the Masters title on home soil last month, he appears more relaxed than ever before and in an ominous mindset both on and off the table.

Robertson, meanwhile, has stormed into his third major televised final of the season and is looking to follow up his triumphs at the UK Championship and Champion of Champions in late 2015.

The Australian ace first lifted this prestigious trophy back in 2007 and has once again affirmed himself as one of snooker's most formidable all-round performers.

He has enjoyed victories over Fraser Patrick, Stuart Carrington, Anthony McGill, Marco Fu, 147 hero Ding Junhui and Mark Allen in prevailing through the 128-man field so far.

The pair have met 15 times in previous major competition, with O'Sullivan claiming the spoils on nine of those occasions to Robertson's five, plus one draw.

O'Sullivan has to go back to 2013 for his last win over the left-hander (Champion of Champions Semi-Finals) while Robertson enjoyed a 6-1 rout in their most recent meeting at the 2015 Masters.

The final gets underway at 1pm GMT, resuming at 7pm and will be contested over the best of 17 frames at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff.
