Judd Trump aims to progress to his first Welsh Open final by ending the dream run of world number 77 Scott Donaldson in Cardiff on Saturday.

Trump last appeared at this stage of the competition four years ago and is now bidding to reach his third ranking final of the campaign, having won the European Masters and finished runner-up in the English Open.

The world number five cruised through his opening four matches this week, brushing aside Andrew Higginson, Alex Borg, 15-year-old Jackson Page and Iran's Hossein Vafaei for the loss of just four frames.

He then edged through a breath-taking Quarter-Final clash with Barry Hawkins on Friday, capitalising on a staggering missed yellow from 'The Hawk' in the decider.

Trump is now odds-on favourite (BP 8/13 with Betfred) to lift this prestigious trophy, but will be poised for a tricky test from what would have seemed an unlikely Semi-Final opponent before a ball was potted this week.

Donaldson has embarked on a fairy-tale run to his first ranking event Semi-Final, with the £20,000 prize money acquired thus far the biggest pay cheque of his young career.

The 22-year-old saw off Jack Lisowski, Mark King, Jimmy Robertson and Mark Davis, before whitewashing Chinese prodigy Zhou Yuelong 5-0 in Friday's Quarter-Finals.

His previous best run saw him reach the Last 16 of the 2013 Wuxi Classic, now the young Scotsman will be determined to go all the way and make history this weekend.

This will be the first meeting between these two talented youngsters and promises to be an enthralling contest as the attack-minded Trump comes up against the tactically-astute Donaldson.

The match gets underway from 1pm GMT and will be contested over the best of 11 frames at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff.

Either world number two Stuart Bingham or Gloucester ace Robert Milkins awaits the winner in Sunday's show-piece.
