English Open Day Five Tips

Anthony McGill v Neil Robertson - Over 7.5 total frames @ EVS with Paddy Power

World number eight and sixteen collide as Robertson takes on McGill in the opening Quarter-Final at the Barnsley Metrodome.

Robertson is appearing in his first ranking event Quarter-Final since March's Players Championship, having dispensed Billy Joe Castle, Li Hang, Jimmy Robertson and Aditya Mehta along the way.

He is bidding to maintain his unbeaten head-to-head record against McGill, having won all four of their previous competitive meetings, including in the Quarter-Finals of last year's European Masters.

In contrast, McGill finds himself in a fifth ranking Quarter-Final of what has been a superb season for the 26-year-old so far.

There appears little to choose between the two based on their performances so far this week, and with both astute in the tactical department, expect this to develop into a close-run contest.

Hossein Vafaei v Kyren Wilson - Over 0.5 total centuries @ 5/6 with Bet365

Wilson has dropped just four frames en route to the Quarter-Final hurdle, notably whitewashing Xiao Guodong with two century breaks and a 97 in the Last 16 on Thursday evening.

Iran's Vafaei is out to reach his second ranking Semi-Final of 2017 at the expense of former Shanghai Masters champion in what promises to be a high quality show-down.

Wilson has made five centuries in total en route to the Quarter-Finals, and with the format extended to best of nine, he is well-fancied to add to that tally this afternoon.

This has been a tournament brimming with high breaks, and the best bet in this one looks to be for a minimum of one century break to be served up by either player.

Jack Lisowski +32.5 first frame points handicap @ 5/6 with Bet365

The pick of the Quarter-Final ties sees red hot title favourite Ronnie O'Sullivan up against a resurgent Jack Lisowski in the evening session.

Lisowski has come through a gruelling section of the draw, whitewashing Rory McLeod before edging out Li Yuan, Mark Williams and his good friend Judd Trump to reach only his second ranking Quarter-Final in four years.

Despite a heavily bruised ankle sustained whilst out running on Monday, O'Sullivan has played through the pain barrier and has dropped just six frames in wins over Zhang Anda, Mark Davis, Zhang Yong and his great rival John Higgins.

He is poised for a first competitive meeting with Lisowski - who finally appears to be demonstrating the consistency which he has arguably lacked since bursting onto the scene seven years ago.

Should the young Bristolian settle in to the match quickly, he is widely expected to give 'The Rocket' a real run for his money, and the stand-out bet is for Lisowski to win the first frame on a generous +32.5 points handicap.

Michael White -1.5 frames handicap @ 17/20 with Boylesports

Elsewhere, Switzerland's Alexander Urschenbacher aims to extend his ground-breaking run in Barnsley by overcoming in-form Welshman Michael White.

Urschenbacher, the lowest ranked player left in the competition at world number 87, has produced a quartet of inspired displays to see off Anthony Hamilton, Gerard Greene, Stuart Carrington and former World Champion Shaun Murphy.

He reached the final qualifying round of this year's World Championship before falling agonisingly short of a place at The Crucible and will be determined for his dream not to be ended in the Last Eight here.

White was responsible for knocking out Ding Junhui in Round Two and is bidding to remain on course for a second ranking title of the season, following on from August's Paul Hunter Classic triumph.

This may prove a step too far for the Swiss sensation, with White offering value on a -1.5 frames handicap to make his way into the Semis.

How to bet on the English Open

Betting on the English Open could not be simpler, with a range of pre-match, outright and in-play markets at your fingertips via the majority of leading sports bookmakers.

To place a bet on the English Open, simply go to the home page of your chosen bookmaker on either the desktop site or mobile app and head to the A-Z sports menu.

From there, select Snooker > English Open and locate the match or market you wish place a bet on. Outrights, match coupons for accumulators and in-play markets are then listed on the interface. Compile your bet by clicking on the odds which will then add it to your betslip.

On the bet slip, you can then key in your stake and the type of bet you wish to place, for example, single, double, accumulator. Once your bet has been placed, keep an eye out for the cash-out option while your bets are still open, which is offered by most of the leading firms.

Markets offered on the English Open

Typically, the top bookmakers for snooker in general including Bet365, Betfred and Coral are also the go-to firms for placing bets on the English Open.

Main markets include match result - simply betting on which player will win the tie and frame handicaps - whereby a virtual advantage or disadvantage to either player is awarded in order to even the field, for example a +2.5 frames handicap bet would be for Player A or B to win the match if 2.5 frames were to be added to their final tally.

A two-way market for the total number of frames is a sensible bet if the contest appears too close to call on paper and is not reliant on either player to win. For example backing over 5.5 frames in a best of seven match is covering the total number of frames amounting to either six or seven.

Punters can also bet on the number of centuries breaks in any given match, including a total number for either player or Player A or B to compile the most 100+ breaks. Significant odds of around 25/1 are often available for one player to produce snooker's holy grail - a maximum 147 break.

Other notable snooker betting markets include correct score for those with a precise prediction, as well as whether or not the match will go to a deciding frame.
