Mehta, world ranked 72, has enjoyed a dream run to his first career ranking final this week, thriving from the wealth of local support, and now stands on the cusp of a place in the snooker history books.

The 27-year-old has taken his native event by storm, and incredibly prior to this week, he had never been beyond the second round of any major televised ranking tournament.

Victories over former world champions Peter Ebdon and Mark Williams, sandwiched between a defeat of Hammad Miah, set the emerging star on his his way to the Quarter-Finals - where he then edged out fellow countryman Pankaj Advani in a marathon battle 4-3.

Mehta then booked his final berth with a dramatic deciding frame win over Stephen Maguire, compiling a high break of 132 en route to a historic triumph.

Standing in the way of Mehta and the title is the formidable Chinese sensation - Ding - who has continued his blistering spell of form this week.

The 26-year-old has picked up from where he left off upon clinching last month's Shanghai Masters title, with a series of superb displays to reach the climax.

Barry Pinches, Mark Joyce, John Higgins, Neil Robertson and Robbie Williams have all felt the wrath of 'The Dragon' in New Delhi, and the right-hander appears to be improving round-by-round, notably producing a tournament high 142 break in his latter victory.

To many, this unlikely final would appear somewhat of a mismatch, with 68 places separating the duo, but over a relatively short format and with the vast majority of the sell-out crowd firmly behind him, Mehta will feel that his destiny lies in his own hands.

The duo have met just once in previous major competition, with Ding producing two centuries in a narrow 5-4 win in Wuxi Classic qualifying in May.

The bookmakers have installed Ding as the firm 1/3 favourite to make it back-to-back ranking titles, with Mehta best priced at 11/4 with Bet365 to fulfil his destiny and lift the trophy.

The match begins at 2.30pm BST (7.00pm local time) and will be streamed live over the best of nine frames from the Le Meridien Hotel in New Delhi, India.
