Carter, who claimed this title in 2013, has hit back to his best at The Tempodrom this week, banishing a recent string of early exits to win through to his second ranking final of the season.

The reigning World Open champion has rarely been threatened en route to the decider, kick-starting his run with a 5-1 rout of Stephen Maguire, and though Zhao Xintong took him to a final frame, Carter kicked on by defeating 147 hero Tom Ford 5-2 to reach the Semi-Finals.

There, he dethroned defending German Masters champion Martin Gould 6-2 to move to the cusp of a fifth career ranking title.

Hamilton, meanwhile, is incredibly appearing in his first major final for 15 years (since the 2002 China Open) following a terrific series of scalps this week.

The methodical 45-year-old has seen off a trio of World Champions - Mark Williams, Mark Selby and Stuart Bingham - as well as former Masters runner-up Barry Hawkins to defy the odds and move within one win of making history.

The Nottingham potter, ranked world number 66 before a shot was played this week, has continued the superb resurgence which saw him reach the Semi-Finals of last November's Northern Ireland Open.

Victory would hand him a first career ranking trophy in 26 years as a professional, though both his mental and physical strength will be tested to the limit after he got over the line in his Semi-Final against Bingham after the midnight hour.

Hamilton has lost all four of his previous meetings with 'The Captain' dating back to 2002, including a 5-2 defeat in the Last 16 of this competition in 2013 - the year Carter went on to lift the trophy.

Their latest show-down gets underway from 1pm GMT, resuming to a finish from 7pm, and will be contested over the best of 17 frames at The Tempodrom in Berlin.
