Wigan Warriors vs Widnes Vikings betting tips - Warriors to extend unbeaten start to Super League season

  • Wigan Warriors host Widnes Viking at 2000 GMT on Thursday
  • Warriors unbeaten after five matches
  • Vikings lead the way at the top on points difference

Wigan Warriors will be looking to extend their unbeaten start to six matches on Thursday when they entertain Super League leaders Widnes Vikings at the DW Stadium.

Super League Match Odds: (Betfred) Wigan 1/4, Draw 25/1, Widnes 3/1

The Vikings lead the competition on points difference and have played one game more than the Warriors, they have played six and won five while Wigan have played five and won every single game.

Widnes’ only defeat this season was a 28-20 round three defeat at Salford Red Devils, they come into this clash on the back of a stunning 46-6 home win over Hull FC with Stefan Marsh grabbing a hat-trick of tries and Corey Thompson scoring twice.

The Vikings have failed to beat Wigan Warriors at the DW Stadium since turning them over 22-18 back on July 26 in 2003 and former Wigan player and coach Denis Betts will be eager to get one over on his old employers.

Betts has opted to make two changes to his match-day squad with Chris Bridge and Patrick Ah Van dropping out, they will be replaced by Setaimata Sa and Tom Gilmore.

Wigan have the meanest defence in the whole of Super League with just 66 points conceded in five matches, Widnes will have to rely heavily on halves Joe Mellor and Kevin Brown if they are to get the better of the Warriors.

The Warriors will be full of confidence after putting together their best performance of the season last Friday in their 28-6 victory over defending champions Leeds Rhinos.

Head coach Shaun Wane has opted to keep the same squad from last week with Nick Gregson hoping to keep his place on the bench following last weekend’s debut, while Joe Bretherton is also pushing for his first appearance.

Speculation over winger Josh Charnley’s future has been rife this week with reports coming out that he is on the verge of joining rugby union side Sale Sharks, we are backing the Wigan winger to put that behind him and score the opening try of the game at 13/2 with Betfred.

Widnes may be scoring points for fun but Wigan’s defence is relentless, we are tipping the home side in this one to record an 11-20 points victory at 9/4 with Ladbrokes.

Wigan Warriors versus Widnes Vikings takes place at the DW Stadium on Thursday, March 17 with a kick-off time of 2000 GMT. This game will be shown live on Sky Sports.

Recommended Bets:
Wigan to win by 11-20 points – 9/4 Ladbrokes
Josh Charnley to score first try – 13/2 Betfred
