Wigan Warriors vs Brisbane Broncos World Club Series betting tips - Warriors to get revenge for 2015 defeat against Broncos

  • Wigan host Brisbane at 2000 GMT on Saturday
  • Broncos beat the Warriors 14-12 in 2015
  • Game two of the 2016 World Club Series

Two of the most successful sides in the history of rugby league will once again lock horns as Wigan Warriors host the Brisbane Broncos in game two of the 2016 World Club Series.

World Club Series Match Odds: (Paddy Power) Wigan 6/4, Draw 18/1, Brisbane 4/7

The 2016 World Club Series sees three teams from Super League do battle with three from the NRL, the opening games sees St Helens take on Sydney Roosters while the Super League and NRL Grand Final runners-up, Wigan Warriors and Brisbane Broncos, lock horns on Saturday.

The series comes to a close on Sunday evening with Super League champions Leeds Rhinos playing host to NRL Grand Final winners North Queensland Cowboys in the World Club Challenge.

Wigan Warriors are the most successful team in British rugby league history with 20 league titles, 19 Challenge Cup victories and three World Club Challenges, while the Broncos have won the NRL Premiership six times and the WCC twice.

This intense but respected rivalry started in 1992 when the Broncos came to England and dethroned the then mighty Wigan 22-8 at Central Park, that defeat stung the Cherry and Whites but they gained the ultimate revenge in 1994 when they went over to Australia to become the first and only team to go Down Under and be victorious as they beat Brisbane 20-14 at the ANZ Stadium.

They also met twice in the ill-fated World Club Challenge in 1997 with Brisbane recording comfortable wins over the Warriors, their final meeting took place last year at the DW Stadium as the Broncos won 14-12 after extra-time.

Last season’s encounter was a thriller with Wigan winger Joe Burgess, now at the Sydney Roosters, scoring a last second try to take the game to extra-time. The Broncos then won the game with a Corey Parker penalty, although he had to re-take it after his initial attempt was illegally charged down by Anthony Gelling.

Not one English team recorded a victory last year and many believe that will once again be the case in 2016, but we are backing Wigan in this one to win the game at 6/4 with Paddy Power. Warriors coach Shaun Wane is a proud Englishman and he has never beaten the Aussies as a coach and will be eager to get on over on Wayne Bennet, who has recently been named as the new England head coach.

Wigan Warriors versus Brisbane Broncos takes place at the DW Stadium on Saturday, February 20 with a kick-off time of 2000. This game will be screened live on Sky Sports.
