St Helens vs Wigan Warriors betting tips - Wigan to take Good Friday spoils in fierce Super League derby

  • St Helens host Wigan Warriors at 1515 GMT on Friday
  • Fages included in Saint squad
  • Joel Tomkins returns for Wigan

The biggest derby in British rugby league once again takes place on Good Friday when St Helens entertain fierce rivals Wigan Warriors at Langtree Park.

Match Odds: (Betfred) St Helens 11/10, Draw 20/1, Wigan Warriors 4/5

A Saints-Wigan derby very rarely fails to disappoint and in terms of rivalry in British sport it is certainly up there with the likes of Manchester United versus Manchester City and Liverpool against Everton.

Both of these teams come into this clash on the back of disappointing defeats and with two passionate coaches in charge this game will have fireworks from minute one to 80.

St Helens are the home team and they occupy fourth place on the league standings with a points total of eight thanks to four wins and two defeats.

Saints, coached by local lad and club legend Keiron Cunningham, were on a three game winning run thanks to victories over Hull Kingston Rovers, Castleford Tigers and Wakefield Trinity Wildcats. That winning streak came to an end last Friday as they went down 30-18 away at champions Leeds Rhinos.

Cunningham has made just one change to the squad that lost at Headingley, former Salford Red Devils scrum-half Theo Fages comes into the reckoning with Atelea Vea missing out.

The Warriors, who are third on the league standings, suffered their first defeat of the season last Thursday as they went down 18-12 at home to Widnes Vikings.

That defeat was Wigan’s first Super League defeat at the DW Stadium since going down to St Helens way back in June 2014. Proud Wiganer Shaun Wane, the Warriors coach, will still be fuming at that loss and knows there is no better way to get over a defeat than by beating St Helens on Good Friday.

Wigan welcome back Joel Tomkins from a knee injury and he goes straight into the squad in place of the injured Liam Farrell. The Warriors are still without Michael McIlorum, Sam Tomkins, Willie Isa, Dom Crosby and George Williams through injury.

These matches between these two are always hard to call but we are going with Wigan this week, we are backing them to come out on top by 13 points or more at 11/4 with Paddy Power.

St Helens versus Wigan Warriors takes place at Langtree Park on Friday, March 25 with a kick-off time of 1515 GMT. This game will be shown live on Sky Sports.
