New Zealand look to bounce back from their shock loss to Tonga when they take on Fiji in the Rugby League World Cup quarter-finals on Saturday night in Wellington.

New Zealand v Fiji Preview and Tips

After falling to Tonga by six points last weekend, New Zealand will have to do it the hard way if they are going to challenge for the World Cup title, facing Fiji on Saturday before a potential semi-final showdown with Australia.

New Zealand were rolling along nicely following comfortable victories over Samoa and Scotland, but they were ambushed by a rampant Tongan outfit last week, which saw them finish the group second and now tasked with tougher teams in the knockout stages.

On the flip side, that loss could be the wake-up call the Kiwis needed in order to spark some new life into the team. Shaun Johnson was quiet against Tonga and he will be looking for a big game against Fiji.

Fiji have scored the most points in the tournament so far, scoring 32 tries in three games for 168, but they’ve come against very weak sides in Italy, USA and Wales - the latter two the worst performing teams in the competition.

Jarryd Hayne will need to perform at his best for Fiji to have a chance - but the reality is they haven’t come up against a side that even comes close to the talent that New Zealand are equipped with.

Fiji’s defence will be tested for the first time all tournament and I don’t think they’ll be able to hold out a NZ team that will be determined to bounce back. Expect the Kiwis to cruise to victory.
