Leeds Rhinos vs Hull KR Challenge Cup Final Preview, Team News and Betting Tips - Peacock backed to win Lance Todd Trophy at Wembley

  • Leeds and Hull KR contest the Challenge Cup Final
  • Kevin Sinfield and Jamie Peacock in final Wembley appearance
  • Albert Kelly declared fit for Hull KR

Kevin Sinfield and Jamie Peacock will play in their last ever Challenge Cup match this Saturday when Leeds Rhinos take on Hull Kingston Rovers in the Final at Wembley Stadium.

Challenge Cup holders Leeds Rhinos will be looking to make it back-to-back Wembley wins when they take on the Robins this Saturday and win the famous trophy for the 13th time in their history.

Leeds, along with St Helens, have won the Challenge Cup 12 times altogether with only Wigan Warriors winning it more with 19 successes.

Hull KR have only ever won the Challenge Cup once in their lifetime and to this day it remains their best ever achievement as they knocked over fierce local rivals Hull 10-5 in the 1980 showpiece final.

The Rhinos entered the 2015 Challenge Cup in the sixth round and ran out 48-16 winners over Huddersfield Giants, before getting the better of Hull FC and St Helens on route to the final.

Hull KR, who came in at the fifth round stage, defeated Championship side Bradford Bulls before knocking out cup kings Wigan in the shock of the round 16-12 at the Leigh Sports Village.

They then went on to knock out Catalans Dragons in the quarters and Warrington Wolves in the semi-final.

Team News

Leeds captain Kevin Sinfield will be leaving the Rhinos at the end of the season to move to rugby union side Leeds Carnegie, while Jamie Peacock is retiring from the game and taking up a new role at Saturday’s opponents Hull KR and both will be looking to end their time at the Rhinos with more silverware.

Leeds coach Brian McDermott has named his 19-man squad for the cup final and apart from Paul Aiton and Jamie Jones-Buchanan – who are ruled out with injuries – the Rhinos are at full strength.

Hull KR have named Australian Albert Kelly in their squad to face the Rhinos after reports had earlier ruled him out – Kelly has been sidelined since the semi-final win over Warrington and although it may be a gamble the half-back is a match winner and is well worth the risk.

Tyrone McCarthy will captain the side at Wembley, while Shaun Lunt, who has joined the Robins on a permanent basis, is expected to play a key role.

Betfred are continuing to offer members the opportunity to cash in on this game with their special market on the first try scorer of the game.

If your selected player manages to cross for the opening try of the game, and he scores again later in the match, then Betfred will double your first try scorer price.

First try scorer markets are very popular in the Challenge Cup Final but picking out a winner is easier said than done. Leeds boast one of the best backlines in the game and Ryan Hall, Kallum Watkins, Zak Hardaker, Tom Briscoe and Joel Moon are all capable of crossing over first.

Hull KR are a team of hard workers rather than flair players but Keiron Dixon is very fast and on the spacious track at Wembley he could cause Leeds a few problems, while Josh Mantellato and Kris Welham are both proven try scorers.

The Rhinos are firm favourites to retain their Challenge Cup trophy at 1/5 with Bet365, while Hull KR are on offer at 4/1 with Ladbrokes.

The man of the match award in the Challenge Cup Final is a massive deal and understandably Sinfield and Peacock are the favourites at 7/2 and 6/1 with Betfred respectively to lift the Lance Todd Trophy.

It is often the case that a big name player fails to shine on the main stage and it is down to the lesser lights to take full advantage. Leeds’ Australian prop Adam Cuthbertson has took shone in England this season and his offloading game could see him a major contender and he is on offer at 16/1.

Kelly is crucial to what the Robins do and if he is fully fit then he is worth a punt at 14/1 with BetVictor, while Lunt can cause problems around the ruck and is on offer at 33/1 with Sky Bet.
