England vs New Zealand 3rd Test preview & betting tips - England favourites to clinch Test series

  • England and New Zealand face off in series decider on Saturday
  • Smith and McGillvary named in England squad
  • Kiwis name same starting XIII

England have been installed as the slight favourites to win the third Test against New Zealand and clinch the series this Saturday.

  • Bet on England vs New Zealand at bet365

The three match series is level at 1-1 after the Kiwis won the second Test at the Olympic Stadium 9-2 last weekend to set up the decider at the DW Stadium.

Match Odds:
England 4/6 bet365
New Zealand 5/4 Sky Bet
Draw 20/1 Paddy Power

Handicap:
England -2 Evens bet365
New Zealand +2 10/11 Ladbrokes

England coach Steve McNamara has made two changes to his squad ahead of the third Test with Jermaine McGillvary and Matty Smith coming in.

Huddersfield winger McGillvary and Wigan scrum-half Smith come into the 19-man squad in place of Leroy Cudjoe and Ben Westwood, who have not seen any game time either.

Smith has not played for England since last autumn’s 16-14 defeat to New Zealand in Dunedin, while McGillvary, Super League’s leading try-scorer from the 2015 season, is hoping to make his England debut on Saturday.

McNamara said:
“We have had a great week with our preparation and the players are ready to take on a strong New Zealand side. The players are well aware of the importance of the game and the improvements we have to make from our previous matches to give ourselves every chance of beating New Zealand.
“We will have to be at our best to win, but we’ll relish the pressure of playing against a quality team in front of a full house at Wigan.”

England are slight favourites at 4/6 with bet365, while of McGillvary does manage to start he can be backed at 10/1 with Stan James to score first try. Current wingers Joe Burgess and Ryan Hall have yet to score this series and they are 10/1 and 9/1 respectively with Ladbrokes to score first.

New Zealand will be hoping Golden Boot contender Roger Tuivasa-Sheck starts to show the form he is capable of in attack and can be backed at 11/1 with William Hill, while last weekend’s match-winner Shaun Kenny-Dowall is 10/1 with Stan James to score the final try of the game.

At least one player needs to stand up and be counted and once again we could be looking at a forward’s battle and if so backing a winning margin of England 1-5 at 5/1 with Sky Bet could pay off.

New Zealand coach Stephen Kearney has opted to stick with the same starting line-up that got the win at the Olympic Stadium meaning Kodi Nikorima keeps his place at scrum-half alongside Peta Hiku.

Speaking ahead of the third Test, Kearney said:
"These lads got the job done last week and it was a good performance from them. I didn't feel there was a need to change the team."

England versus New Zealand takes place at the DW Stadium, Wigan on Saturday, November 14 with a kick-off time of 1300 GMT. This game will be shown live on the BBC.
