England and Scotland clash in a professional rugby league match for the first time in history when they square off in the Four Nations on Saturday, with England expected to claim the bragging rights.

Both sides head into this second group encounter on the back of opening defeats, with England edged 17-16 by New Zealand and Scotland falling to Australia by 42 points.

Fierce rivals England and Scotland collide in what will be a fiery must-win game for both sides after they each lost their group openers last weekend.

Host nation England were extremely unlucky to fall to defending Four Nations champions New Zealand, with a late and controversial Shaun Johnson field goal the only difference between the sides after 80 minutes.

It was an impressive showing from England despite the loss, and they will be searching for a big win over Scotland to give them confidence ahead of a blockbuster meeting with Australia next week.

Coach Wayne Bennett will likely name the same team that was pipped by New Zealand - except for James Graham, who will miss the game due to a knee injury. Graham is still expected to line up against the Kangaroos next week.

"James Graham is the only one who won't be available for selection this weekend," Bennett told a press conference in Birmingham this week.
"He's got a small medial tear. It's not serious, he should be right next week."

Scotland’s Four Nations debut began with a heavy defeat to Australia last week, but anything less would have been a huge surprise, and they actually covered the line.

The Bravehearts battled hard and they will be determined to lift and really take it to England in this contest. Scotland traditionally lift when competing against their neighbouring nation, and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if they kept this one closer than what most are expecting.

Lachlan Coote, Euan Aitken, Kane Linnett and former Super League Man of Steel Danny Brough comprise a classy backline, and if their forward pack can rise to the occasion, Scotland could potentially scare England.

But ultimately you can’t go past the tournament hosts. They can only improve from last week, and they were tantalisingly close to toppling the defending champions. Scotland will be fired up and take it to England early, but Wayne Bennett’s troops will prove too classy in the end.
