Ireland: World Rugby Team of the Year to win the 2019 World Cup?

Ireland capped off a phenomenal year of rugby with a powerful 57-14 win over the USA on Saturday. The European side were far too strong for their opponents, and the ease at which they won the match shows that they are growing stronger and stronger as a team.

This was further underlined by the fact they were named the World Rugby Team of the Year following their incredible 2018. A Six Nations Grand Slam campaign was followed by a series triumph in Australia, while they won all four of their Autumn internationals, including a victory over number one ranked side New Zealand. Clearly, the gap between the All Blacks and Ireland is shrinking.

Ireland’s awesome year has seen confidence in the side continue to build, and it has forced Ladbrokes into cutting their price of the Irish attaining the ultimate glory, with a 2019 World Cup win for Ireland now 3/1. New Zealand are still favourites with the side Evens, but the top two sides are someway clear of the chasing pack, with England (7/1), South Africa (8/1) and Australia (10/1) next in line.

Ladbrokes - Rugby World Cup 2019 Winner betting odds:
