European Champions Cup betting tips: 3 best bets for the games between December 7-8

Ben Darvill 4 Dec 2018

European Champions Cup 3 best bets. Read on for our 3 best bets for the games in the European Champions Cup this weekend as Europe's elite come together for another weekend of hugely exciting rugby.

Scarlets vs Ulster (Friday, 19:45 GMT)

Two sides in Conference B of the Pro 14 come together on Friday for what should be a very interesting match. The Scarlets sit at the bottom of Pool 4 in the Champions Cup after losing both of their opening two games in a disappointing start. Ulster on the other have have won once and lost once, seeing them onto four points, five short of Racing 92 at the top of the table. While form in the Champions Cup would suggest that Ulster may have the better of this one, the two actually met in the Pro 14 at Parc y Scarlets in a professional 29-12 win for the home team on November 23. While the Champions Cup is a very different competition to the Pro 14, these two know each other very well, and this makes us confident in backing the home team to make it two wins from two in front of their home fans against an Ulster side that they currently sit a place above in the league.

Lyon vs Glasgow (Saturday, 13:00 GMT)

Lyon have struggled in the Champions Cup this season and, after two matches, they are yet to pick up a single point via a result or through any kind of bonus point. In the league, Lyon have looked fairly good, winning six of their 11 games, meaning they currently sit in fourth in the the Top 14, with 31 points. Opponents Glasgow arrive following a fairly good start in Europe this season which has seen the side win one of their two games, meaning they have five points and sit in second. While they have been hit and miss in Europe, they have been awesome in the league, something that will worry Lyon massively. Glasgow have won eight of their 10 games, scoring a massive 319 points and conceding just 199. This, along with nine bonus points, has seen Glasgow open up a seven point lead at the top over Munster, with the Scottish side looking in fantastic form this season. While Lyon will have their own fans behind them, their domestic form coupled with their European showings do not bode well for the side, and we feel that at odds-on, they are not worth the bet. Instead, we are recommending you back Glasgow to win this one, with the Scottish side offering good value, and looking in great form.

Wasps vs Toulouse (Saturday, 17:30 GMT)

Wasps and Toulouse currently sit in polar-opposite positions in Group 1, but that does not mean the English side are out of the running, with just five points separating the away side from the home team. Toulouse have managed to pick up two wins by beating Leinster 28-27 in a gripping match which followed a very fortunate win over Bath in their first game, while Wasps were at least able to hit back from their 52-3 hammering at the hands of Leinster in match day one by drawing 35-35 with Bath. While Toulouse do sit at the top of the table, we feel that Wasps will give them a very tough examination as they look to get their first win in Europe this season under their belt. However, with eight wins in 11 in the French Top 14, we think Toulouse will have too much for their hosts, which offers better value than backing the home side., and it would also constitute their second win in England in juts two outings.
