The Wallabies suffered a heavy 35-17 loss at the hands of South Africa in Johannesburg last weekend, while Argentina's Pumas went down 20-16 to New Zealand in Buenos Aires. In a shortened competition, only victory in Brisbane will give either side hope.

Both nations suffered a loss last weekend, and the loser of this contest will wave goodbye to their hopes of winning this year's reduced Rugby Championship.

The Wallabies' loss to South Africa last week continued a horrible run where they have won just four of their past 16 games, and the form of their Super Rugby franchises did little to indicate that will be changing anytime soon - nor does the loss of Israel Folau.

Fortunately for the Australians they head to their happiest hunting ground Suncorp Stadium, where they have won 73% of their contests.

The Pumas upset some punters last week, covering the spread by going down to the All Blacks by just four points.

A strong start to their campaign should come as no surprise however given the historic run of the Jaguares in Super Rugby, comprised almost entirely of Pumas players, the chemistry and cohesion having blossomed for months and a wave of enthusiasm with it.

Argentina knocked the Wallabies off at home last year 23-19, the first time they had won on Australian soil since 1983, though they did lose the following round back in Argentina. But winning on Aussie turf is a hurdle this group has already recently overcome.

Interestingly, the Jaguares did not lose to an Australian side all season and easily dispatched the Brumbies en route to the final. Granted the Brumbies are not the Wallabies, but they've been beating Australian teams all year.

The Wallabies are on the ropes right now, and Argentina is just the type of team to sniff out that weakness and continue to build their own history.
