New Zealand and England to battle in another World Cup final in 2019?

England clinched their first ever Men's Cricket World Cup triumph as they beat New Zealand at Lord's on Sunday, and the two may not have long to wait before they battle in a World Cup final once again.

England and New Zealand played out what many described as the greatest ever game of cricket on Sunday as the spectators packed into Lord’s and watching across the world were treated to a match of the highest quality and drama. England were able to score 241 all out in their innings, exactly the same score as New Zealand, thus resulting in a super over. England then scored 15 runs, exactly the same as New Zealand who went in to bat second, but the three Lions lifted the World Cup courtesy of their superior boundary scoring in the final.

That victory left the watching world in disbelief with England and their fans ecstatic, while New Zealand and their followers were left to lament what might have been, with the greatest match in cricket history one that neither teams deserved to lose.

New Zealand may not have particularly long to wait for glory at a World Cup though with rugby’s equivalent to come in Japan later in the year. New Zealand are, as they always seem to be, the favourites to win the Rugby World Cup, with the side looking to claim an incredible three-straight wins at the competition despite real competition from the likes of England, Ireland, Wales and South Africa this year. Indeed, the chances of the side avenging their Cricket World Cup loss seem likely, while they are currently 14/1 with Paddy Power to be given the chance to avenge this loss by taking on England in the final. According to the bookmaker a New Zealand vs Ireland final (5/1) is the most likely match-up, while South Africa vs New Zealand (11/2), Wales vs New Zealand (8/1), Australia vs New Zealand (13/1) are all more likely finals, with England vs Ireland (14/1) as likely to happen as England vs New Zealand.
