Thursday 7th December NAP of the day – 5/2 shot to leave rivals feeling hazy after Leicester opener

Leicester Hurdle.

Our expert looks through all the race being staged on Thursday and picks out an appealing novice in the first race at Leicester as his NAP of the day.

There are several good quality meetings to occupy punters tomorrow afternoon, with one of the day’s most exciting cards coming from Leicester. Our expert has taken a look through the card in full and highlights an interesting contender in the opener as his NAP of the day.

Arthington continued his impressed early-season form by claiming second behind Twobeelucky at Cheltenham’s Showcase Meeting. Kevin Jones’ claimer means he will only be giving away five pounds to most of the field, but the favourite will still have his work cut out in with some dangerous novices and the one who holds most appeal is DOCTOR HAZE.

Whilst in the care of Kathryn Dando, the Dr Massini gelding finished third in his first two point-to-pints before claiming a six length victory on his final outing. Impressive Skelton recruit, Black Sam Bella beat him on his pointing debut and he finished third behind Santini on his second defeat and he looked excellent when winning at Newbury a couple of weeks ago for Nicky Henderson.

The six-year-old made the move to Kim Bailey’s yard last month and went to post as the 4/1 second-favourite in a Class Four at Chepstow. Favourite Marley Firth was gaining three pounds on the field and comfortably secured victory, but Doctor Haze ran on well to finish second, six lengths ahead of third-placed Holdbacktheriver.

Despite all three of his runners on Wednesday failing to finish, Kim Bailey is still working at a 24% strike rate over the last two weeks – an excellent win ratio by anyone’s standards. Mikey Hamill’s claimer ensures Doctor Haze goes to post at the bottom of the weights and if he has progressed as expected between runs, he travels to Leicester with genuine winning claims.
