Brian Healy gives his race-by-race selections and best bets across all four of Sunday's scheduled UK and Irish horse racing meetings.

Four meetings on Sunday draw the day to a close, and the day’s action on the flat comes from Doncaster and Salisbury where the Listed Cathedral Stakes is the feature race of the day.

Meanwhile, in Ireland there is further flat racing action with a card from Gowran Park; while over the sticks there is a fixture from Downpatrick.

Gowran Park (flat) - 1.35 - 5.30pm (8 races)
Downpatrick (jumps) - 1.45 - 5.05pm (7 races)
Salisbury (flat) - 1.55 - 5.15pm (7 races)
Doncaster (flat) - 2.10 - 5.35pm (7 races)

(2.05) PURSUIT OF MAGIC (7/1, Coral) has posted a couple of creditable runs in her three outings to date, latterly finishing six lengths’ fourth in a first-time hood behind Dean Street Doll at Limerick back in April.

Jessica Harrington’s charge still looked a bit rough around the edges in that last run, but she is entitled to find further improvement now handicapping and she finished off well last time out having been caught for pace turning in.

The Kingman filly has been handed an initial mark of 69 for this first foray into the handicap ranks, while this doesn’t look the strongest of contests so it wouldn’t be a huge shock to see her progress now and she can get off the mark here.

(3.15) SCORPION BLACK (11/2, Bet365) finished runner-up in starts at Naas and here in April and May respectively, and while Dermot Weld’s charge disappointed latest at Listowel he is perhaps worth another chance to get off the mark.

The Shamardal gelding was beaten only a neck behind Khafaaq over this course and distance in May, unable to sustain his effort; he wasn’t seen to best effect latest, but he can remain competitive.

He looks exposed now, but this isn’t a strong race and if he can leave behind that lesser run last time then he could go close in this contest.

1.35 - Mythologic
2.05 - Pursuit Of Magic
2.40 - Tony The Gent
3.15 - Scorpion Black
3.45 - Major Power
4.20 - Angel’s Amy
4.55 - Red Gerry
5.30 - Wargrave

(2.20) It might be worth giving another chance to CATS FOR CASH (11/8, Bet365) who wasn’t seen to best effect last time, but the Mahler gelding had gone close the time before and he may be capable of bouncing back here.

Gordon Elliott’s charge found only one too good at Kilbeggan in May, beaten around seven lengths behind Gotthenod in first-time blinkers; but the headgear failed to have the same effect next time back at the same venue.

Davy Russell returns to the saddle for this assignment, and it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him going close here.

(3.25) RAKHINE STATE (10/3, Paddy Power) won two of his three starts last term, posting wins at Clonmel and Perth either side of a short break; Gordon Elliott’s charge can strike again following another brief absence.

The Arakan gelding ran out a two lengths’ winner over Curramore last time out at the Scottish track, keeping on well for the win, and the third horse home has won since to give the form a bit of a boost.

Switching now to a handicap he could well have more to offer, but he remains open to improvement and may well take another forward step here to strike again.

1.45 - Monition
2.20 - Cats For Cash
2.55 - In A Pinch
3.25 - Rakhine State
4.00 - Song Of Namibia
4.35 - Mr Moondance
5.05 - Lady Breffni

(2.30) YELLOW LABEL (4/1, Ladbrokes) has bettered his finishing position with every start, and the Hat Trick gelding can get off the mark now.

Andrew Balding’s charge most recently found a jolt of improvement when making his handicap debut over course and distance last month, beaten just one length behind Twenty Years On and crossing the line ahead of a subsequent winner.

He has only been raised 1lb for that effort, and with the potential to do better still over this longer trip he is worth chancing to build on the run to get off the mark here.

(3.35) FORBIDDEN LAND (5/4, Paddy Power) found only one too good on his debut run at York last month, although he proved no match for the easy winner.

Richard Hannon’s charge crossed the line five lengths’ adrift of Repartee who looked a potentially useful recruit, and the Acclamation colt could step up on that performance here to go one better.

He has different ground conditions to deal with on this occasion, but if he can handle the softer ground and show some improvement from his debut effort then he can get off the mark at the second attempt.

1.55 - Alica Darcy
2.30 - Yellow Label
3.05 - Tribal Craft
3.35 - Forbidden Land
4.10 - Snazzy Jazzy
4.45 - Cotubanama
5.20 - Youkan

(3.55) DUKE OF FIRENZE (10/3, Bet365) has been in good heart this term, winning at Thirsk and York last month, and Derek Griffiths’ charge shaped better than the result when finishing seventh under a penalty in the Epsom Dash behind Ornate at the beginning of June.

The veteran Pivotal gelding was denied a clear run at a crucial stage of the race, but he finished off well to be denied by less than two lengths, and he is only 1lb higher here.

He is proven in testing ground, and it wouldn’t come as a surprise to see him bounce back quickly in this smaller field to resume winning ways.

(4.30) SOCRU (9/1, Paddy Power) has improved since being switched to handicapping, finishing fourth at both Pontefract and Leicester prior to opening his account following a six-month layoff with victory over course and distance back in April.

Mick Easterby’s Kodiac gelding is forgiven his subsequent fourth of seven runners behind Benny And The Jets at Nottingham last month as he stumbled leaving the stalls and almost fell; to finish where he did was all the more creditable.

He can be given another chance as a result, and he is taken to bounce back and build on his earlier success where he could still have some further scope to improve. With a bit more luck this time around, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him going close here.

2.10 - Hammer Gun
2.45 - Sacred Dance
3.20 - Sea Of Faith
3.55 - Duke Of Firenze
4.30 - Socru
5.00 - Barasti Dancer
5.35 - Maid In Manhattan
