Channel 4 Racing tips - Selections for Friday 25 March live TV coverage from Wolverhampton and Lingfield

Brian Healy 25 Mar 2016
Good Friday Channel 4 Racing action comes from the cards at Lingfield and Wolverhampton.

Brian Healy gives his Channel 4 Racing tips for all seven live TV races shown on Channel 4 Racing on Friday 25 March.

Good Friday’s horse racing action sees the return of the Channel 4 Racing cameras, and on All-Weather Champions day, there is live coverage of the best of the action from the classy card at Lingfield, as well as racing from Wolverhampton.

Nick Luck and the team will have seven live TV races, with five from the feature meeting at  Lingfield, and two from Wolverhampton. The full day’s schedule is thus:

1:40 Lingfield - 32Red All-Weather Fillies´ And Mares´ Championships Conditions Stakes Cl2 7f1y
2:10 Lingfield - Unibet All-Weather Sprint Championships Conditions Stakes Cl2 6f1y
2:25 Wolverhampton - bet365 Handicap Cl2 1m141y
2:40 Lingfield - 32Red All-Weather Marathon Championships Conditions Stakes Cl2 1m7f169y
2:55 Wolverhampton - bet365.com Handicap Cl2 1m5f194y
3:15 Lingfield - Ladbrokes All-Weather Mile Championships Conditions Stakes Cl2 1m1y
3:45 Lingfield - Coral Easter Classic All-Weather Middle Distance Championships Conditions Stakes

On Bank Holiday Friday, Brian Healy assesses the afternoon’s live TV action, and he has tips for all seven races on the day.

1:40 Lingfield - 32Red All-Weather Fillies´ And Mares´ Championships Conditions Stakes Cl2 7f1y

Cold As Ice sets the standard on form, having finished runner-up in a Listed race here when last seen. However, William Haggas’ charge has to overcome an outside draw, and it might be worth taking him on with the much better drawn and hat-trick seeking VOLUNTEER POINT (5/1, 888Sport).

Mick Channon’s Footstepsinthesand filly has only once been out of the frame in her six all-weather starts, scoring at Chelmsford last December prior to running a very creditable fourth in a Listed race at Deauville.

Having resumed winning ways back at Chelmsford with a neck defeat of My Call, the filly then landed the odds here with a three-parts of a length win over the reopposing Bint Dandy, where she was value for further than the official winning margin. This demands more from her, but she is clearly thriving at present, and racing from the number three stall she can go close.

Volunteer Point can give trainer Mick Channon a winner at Lingfield.

2:10 Lingfield - Unibet All-Weather Sprint Championships Conditions Stakes Cl2 6f1y

GOKEN (4/1, Paddy Power) kept some hot company during her time in France, but he was a classy performer, winning a Group Three at Chantilly on only his second start and then contested against the likes of Kool Kompany and The Wow Signal during his juvenile campaign.

The following season, he bagged a second Group Three success when scoring at Maisons-Laffite prior to locking horns with Muhaarar in the Commonwealth Cup, and Muthmir in the King George Stakes, but the Kendargent colt was disappointing on both occasions.

He has since left France to pitch up at Kevin Ryan’s yard, and he made a perfect start for his new handler when winning a Listed course and distance event back in November, beating Jamesie in good fashion to score by the better part of two lengths.

Although absent since, he clearly goes well fresh, and racing from the plum draw out of the number one box, he could prove too good for this field if building on that last success.

2:25 Wolverhampton - bet365 Handicap Cl2 1m141y

MONTSARRAT (5/1, Coral) looked a very promising individual last term, winning three of his first four starts on turf, and going down only narrowly to a similarly progressive sort under a penalty at Goodwood when runner-up in his beaten start back in July.

Badly hampered on his last outing at Doncaster when beating only home having led two furlongs out, a line can be put through that run and Mark Johnston’s Poet’s Voice colt is capable of better.

One of three runners for the powerful yard, he can come out on top over stablemates Beaverbrook and Bathos racing out of the plum number one stall; and unlikely to be found wanting for fitness on his tapeta debut he can go close.

Montsarrat (green colours) can resume winning ways at Wolverhampton.

2:40 Lingfield - 32Red All-Weather Marathon Championships Conditions Stakes Cl2 1m7f169y

MOONRISE LANDING (9/4, Paddy Power) has thrived for being reunited with Jim Crowley in each of her last three starts, scoring with some authority on turf in a competitive handicap at Newmarket last October and following up with further successes at Kempton and Wolverhampton to land the hat-trick.

The Dalakhani mare won cosily last time, beating the reopposing Anglophile by almost five lengths, and that form has worked out well with the runner-up winning since, while the fourth home has also landed his own hat-trick of wins.

There appears no real reason why the Godolphin runner should reverse the form of that defeat last time, and Ralph Beckett’s charge can follow up again after a break to make it four wins on the spin.

2:55 Wolverhampton - bet365.com Handicap Cl2 1m5f194y

SILVER QUAY (3/1, Ladbrokes) posted a career-best effort when winning at Lingfield seven days ago, and Richard Hannon’s Dark Angel colt could be hard to beat under a penalty.

The grey ran out a convincing five-length winner over Royal Marskell on that occasion, having previously also won at that venue back in December. His sole prior start on this surface yielded a third to Quality Song, and while he has to shoulder a 6lb penalty for that latest success he looks well up to defying the burden with a similar effort.

Tom Marquand takes over in the saddle, and his claim could be invaluable to the colt’s chances; he makes plenty of appeal on these terms despite the presence in the field of two other last-time winners, and he can follow up his win last week.

Richard Hannon can bag a Wolverhampton winner with Silver Quay.

3:15 Lingfield - Ladbrokes All-Weather Mile Championships Conditions Stakes Cl2 1m1y

SOVEREIGN DEBT (11/4, Paddy Power) can reverse recent Wolverhampton form with Mister Universe, to whom he finished a nose runner-up last time.

On that occasion, Mark Johnston’s hat-trick seeker was in receipt of 5lbs from David Nicholls’ smart Dark Angel gelding; but the pair meet on level terms this time around, and the selection was a four-time winner last term, which included a Group Three contest at Tipperary as well as a pair of Listed wins.

The booking of top jockey Andrea Atzeni for this assignment looks a shout of confidence in the gelding, who has a win and two places from his four starts here; and racing out of the plum box in the number one stall for this rematch, he shouldn’t be far away.

3:45 Lingfield - Coral Easter Classic All-Weather Middle Distance Championships Conditions Stakes

GRENDISAR (5/4, 888Sport) loves it at this venue, winning six times here and placing on eight other occasions, and Marco Botti’s charge can follow up his recent impressive Winter Derby win to bag himself a hat-trick of successes.

The strong-travelling Invincible Spirit gelding needs things to drop right form him, and a strong pace to aim at, and he gets the latter with three confirmed pace-setters in opposition including Maverick Wave whom he beat here last time.

No-one rides Lingfield better than Adam Kirby, and the jockey enjoys a 50% strike-rate on the Marco Botti-trained runner; and racing out of the number two box the duo should be hard to beat assuming the gaps fall kindly.

Adam Kirby and Grendisar can combine to win again at Lingfield.
