Can Willie Mullins break Melbourne Cup duck? Bookies weigh in!

Willie Mullins has claimed a first Cheltenham Gold Cup and Irish Grand National this year and bookmaker Ladbrokes has opened betting on the Irish trainer having more firsts.

There are few races the trainer has yet to win, including the Queen Mother Champion Chase for which Ladbrokes make it as short as 1/10 that he wins it by 2030.

It is 4/6 that he lands the Betfair Chase in the next ten years, while it is a bigger price at 2/1 that he lands the Melbourne Cup at some stage.

The bookmaker offer 9/2 that he lands all three of the above races before 2030.

“It has been a year of firsts for Willie Mullins and although there are very few races the legendary trainer has yet to win, there’s no doubt he will want to tick them all off,” Ladbrokes’ Nicola McGeady told Bettingpro.com.

“It’s hard to believe that he hasn't added the Champion Chase to his tally, but at 1/10, we reckon it’s a matter of when not if.”
