Betfred have confirmed a money back special for the PDC World Darts Championship, which gets underway on Friday.
If you select a player to win a match and they get a 170 checkout, but then go on to lose the match, Betfred
will payout as if your selection had won with a free bet.
Unsurprisingly it is Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor who is heading the outright betting market as the tournament draws near. Taylor is 7/4 to win it all, with his main threat coming from Michael van Gerwen at 9/2.
Simon Whitlock is the third favourite to upstage Taylor and van Gerwen, and he insists he is feeling good about his game going into the championship.
The Wizard has never tasted success in the biggest tournament in the sport but came mighty close in 2010 after stunning James Wade (20/1 outright) and Raymond van Barneveld (18/1 outright) en route to the final.
However, the Australian ran into the legend that is Taylor – an obvious favourite in Whitlock’s eyes – and lost 7-3, although he enjoyed a good run last year as well but fell at the semi-final stage to Andy Hamilton.
The 43-year-old though is relishing this year’s tournament though having recently won his first major PDC title at the European Championship, before claiming the Dutch Darts Masters which helped him climb up to fourth in the PDC order of Merit.
“I’m very excited and looking forward to this year’s World Championship,” Whitlock told sportinglife.com.
“I’ve played very well this year and won my first major at the European Masters and then won the Dutch Masters after that so my form is good.
“The aim is to win but I like to play one match at a time and assess from there.
“Everyone’s playing well this time of year and it’s going to be very tough so I wouldn’t be able to pick a winner.”
