Theresa May to survive Tory mutiny? Party leader 1/4 to win Conservative leadership battle

Theresa May is fighting to maintain her position as leader of the Conservative Party, but the bookmakers believe it is a battle she can win – for now at least.

There has been plenty of talk of backbenchers calling a no-confidence vote in May as a result of the poorly-handled Brexit negotiations, but the bookmakers do not believe her departure will not be a foregone conclusion if that does happen.

Ladbrokes is just 1/4 that May wins a leadership battle if a vote is called for, while it is 11/4 that she is ousted as Conservative Party leader and Prime Minister.

“The next Conservative leader market looks like being one of the most unpredictable political betting events of all time,” Ladbrokes’ Alex Apati told Bettingpro.com.

“But the odds suggest May isn’t likely to be going anywhere just yet.”

While the current Tory leader could cling onto power for a little while longer, the bookies believe her position is still on shaky ground when it comes to her long-term future.

Boris Johnson, Dominic Raab, Sajid Javid and Michael Gove all at 8/1 to replace her as leader of the Conservative party, with Jacob Rees-Mogg now a 10/1 shot ahead of 12/1 David Davis and Jeremy Hunt.

The odds of Amber Rudd returning to the Cabinet as Tory leader have now been slashed from 50/1, but at 20/1 the bookies believe she has much work to do if she wants to replace May at the helm.

Latest Ladbrokes Odds:

Theresa May no-confidence vote

May wins – 1/4
May loses – 11/4

Next Conservative Leader

Boris Johnson – 8/1
Dominic Raab – 8/1
Sajid Javid – 8/1
Michael Gove – 8/1
Jacob Rees-Mogg – 10/1
David Davis – 12/1
Jeremy Hunt – 12/1
Amber Rudd – 20/1
Penny Mordaunt – 20/1
