Johnson or Gove? Bookies make Tory pair 5/1 joint favourites to be next Prime Minister

Boris Johnson and Michael Gove share favouritism in the next Prime Minister market, according to bookmaker Ladbrokes.

The former Foreign Secretary and current Environment Secretary find themselves chalked up at 5/1 apiece with Ladbrokes to succeed Theresa May as PM, with Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn believe to be their main competition at 6/1.

However, there has been some movement behind the trio with Dominic Raab’s odds shortening to 8/1 after a flurry of support over the past few days put him alongside Conservative counterpart Jeremy Hunt.

Sajid Javid is rated as a 12/1 shot, followed by David Lidington (16/1), Andrea Leadsom (20/1) and Matt Hancock (20/1).

“Punters are finding it tough to call between Johnson and Gove,” Ladbrokes’ Jessica Bridge told Bettingpro.com.

“However, away from the favourites the bookies can report that money continues to pour in for Raab and Hancock.”

Meanwhile, it is a shade of odds-on at 10/11 that a General Election takes place in 2019, with May (3/1) the favoured month of choice should the nation head to the polling stations.
