Joan Burton hot favourite despite support for Alex White in next Irish Labour betting

Paddy Power are offering odds on the next leader of the Irish Labour party and make Joan Burton a 1/5 favourite ahead of Tuesday's nomination deadline.

Paddy Power have cut the odds on Alex White being the next Labour leader ahead of tomorrow’s deadline for nominations.

White was 5/1 less than 24 hours ago but was chopped into 3/1 following several three figure shop bets.

Arthur Spring is another big mover in the betting with his price slashed from 33/1 to 10/1 following speculation that he is set to throw his hat in the ring.

Joan Burton remains the strong favourite to replace Eamon Gilmore despite her price moving from 1/10 to 1/5 since yesterday.

A spokesperson for Paddy Power said “We may have Joan Burton as a big favourite but we’re still seeing a decent spread of money amongst the frontrunners which would suggest that it’s far from a done deal in the eyes of our punters at least.”

Meanwhile, Paddy Power have closed the betting on its Next Deputy Leader market following relentless support for Alan Kelly. The Tipperary North TD was backed into 1/7 before the bookmaker pulled the plug.

Next Labour Leader
1/5 Joan Burton
3/1 Alex White
10/1 Arthur Spring
16/1 Alan Kelly
20/1 Brendan Howlin
25/1 Dominic Hannigan
33/1 Ruairí Quinn
33/1 Aodhan O’Riordain
40/1 Kathleen Lynch
40/1 Sean Sherlock
40/1 Kevin Humphreys
50/1 Derek Nolan
