Cathy Oke favourite to win Melbourne by-election

Cathy Oke is the favourite to win the upcoming Melbourne by-election

The odds suggest that Cathy Oke will win the Melbourne by-election although there has been some strong support for ALT candidate Jennifer Kanis.

Greens candidate Cathy Oke is the $1.50 favourite with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au ahead of tomorrow’s Melbourne by-election, but Labor candidate Jennifer Kanis is receiving late punter support.

Oke’s price was as short as $1.25 during the week and had attracted 91 percent of money wagered, however, Kanis has been given some hope of pulling off an upset win, and has now been backed from $2.40 into $2.25.

“At one stage there hadn’t been a single bet on any other candidate besides Cathy Oke, but over the last 48 hours there has been a solid go for Labor,” sportsbet.com.au's Ben Hawes said.

“Jennifer Kanis has now attracted 22 percent of money wagered on the market, which gives her some hope.”

Independents Stephen Mayne and David Nolte are next in the market at $34.
