End of the road for Theresa May? Bookies price up replacements for under-fire Tory leader

Theresa May’s future as Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party is on shaky ground following the backlash to her Brexit ‘deal’, and the bookmakers believe one of her dissenters could be the man to replace her as Tory leader.

May is facing a vote of ‘No Confidence’ from the Conservative Party after several high-profile ministers resigned in response to her proposed deal with the European Union, with Dominic Raab and Esther McVey two of the biggest names to have quit their roles.

Raab claims the agreement has “fatal flaws” and insists the United Kingdom should be prepared to risk a no-deal Brexit in the face of what he has described as “blackmail” by the EU, and according to the bookmakers his opposition to the Prime Minister’s plans have made him the leading contender to replace her as leader of the Tory party.

Raab is now the 5/1 favourite to be the next Conservative Party leader at Ladbrokes, but he does face serious competition for the top job within the party because Boris Johnson and Sajid Javid are hot on his heels at 6/1.

“Raab’s no fool,” Ladbrokes’ Jessica Bridge told Bettingpro.com. “His resignation puts him in pole position to swoop in as the next Tory leader, as and when May departs.”

Jacob Rees-Mogg and Jeremy Hunt have also been linked with the Tory leadership in the past and are both priced up at 10/1, while Michael Gove’s chances of heading up the Party have decreased over the past few months and he now finds himself out at 12/1.

Latest Ladbrokes Odds
