Bye, bye Theresa May? Bookies reveal odds on May getting ‘Vote of No Confidence’ this week

Theresa May is hanging onto her job as Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader amid continued criticism over the government’s Brexit plan, and the bookmakers believe she could receive the dreaded ‘vote of no confidence’ in the coming days.

Several high-profile ministers have quit in opposition to the EU exit plan drawn up by the government, and since then there have been reports that an official challenge will be made to May’s leadership before the end of the month.

Sir Graham Brady, the chairman of the 1922 Committee of backbench Conservatives, is the man who will oversee any leadership challenge and for that to happen he needs 48 letters from Tory MPs in order to start the process.

He is staying tight-lipped to the point that even his wife does not know how many letters her husband has received, but bookmaker Betway believes there is a good chance that the number is fast approaching the required amount and, as a result, it is now just 9/4 that the ‘vote of no confidence’ is announced on Monday, November 19.

“Last week was one of the more dramatic we have seen in Westminster in recent years, and the sight of MP’s publicly parading no confidence letters to the press was astounding,” Betway’s Alan Alger told Bettingpro.com.

“Theresa May has endured a torrid time since unveiling her Brexit plan, and we make it only 9/4 for Sir Graham Brady to announce the axe is poised over the PM in the form of a no confidence vote.”

Brexit is currently scheduled take place in March 2019 and Betway believes May will be lucky to still be in charge when that happens despite her claims last week that she will ‘see it through’.

The Prime Minister is 11/10 to depart 10 Downing Street at any point next year, while it is 7/4 that she resigns before the end of this year with the bookies 1/2 that the ‘vote of no confidence’ comes on Saturday November 24, later or never.
