Newcastle Knights v Penrith Panthers Predictions

Newcastle Knights v Penrith Panthers Preview and Tips

Having not won in over a month and languishing at the bottom of the competition ladder, both the Knights and Panthers generated some hope in their respective fan-bases as they registered impressive wins last week.

Newcastle have endured a couple of absolutely torrid seasons, but they have been putting in a superb effort all year - especially at home - and their determination was rewarded when they dispatched last year’s preliminary finalists Canberra by 14 points.

The Knights completed at over 85 per cent - which they also did when they won their only other game of 2017 against the Titans at home in Round 2.

With that in mind, Newcastle will be hoping they can improve drastically on the last time they encountered Penrith - when they lost 40-0 at Pepper Stadium earlier this year.

That victory was one of the few highlights of what has been an underwhelming season for Panthers, but perhaps Anthony Griffin’s men are about to turn a corner after staging a miraculous comeback last week.

All but down and out after trailing the Warriors 28-6 at half-time, the Panthers came out a completely different team in the second stanza, delivering a miracle fightback to emerge 36-28 winners.

Penrith have been making a habit of leaving it late to hit top form, also scoring a lot of points in losses against the Broncos, meaning if they can discover an 80-minute performance, they will  be very hard to stop.

The Panthers hold a dominant recent record against the Knights, and while Newcastle will fight and could easily keep it close at home, I expect Penrith to continue on with their momentum.
