NFL Monday Night Football predictions for Week 10 of the 2019 NFL season. Can the Seattle Seahawks become the first team to beat the San Francisco 49ers this season and gain ground on their rivals in the race to win the NFC West? Read on for all of our free predictions and betting tips.

Seattle Seahawks at San Francisco 49ers (Tuesday 01:15 GMT)

The Week 10 games do not come any bigger than this showdown between the Seattle Seahawks and the San Francisco 49ers, so it is rather fitting that this important NFC West clash is taking place under the bright lights of Monday Night Football. The 49ers continue to top the division thanks to the only perfect record left in the National Football League, but the Seahawks are hot on their heels at 7-2 and that means the outcome of this matchup will play a major role in deciding who takes the West this season. If San Francisco take it they will be crowned NFC West champions for the first time since 2012, barring an epic late-season collapse of course, while a victory for Seattle would keep them in the hunt an perhaps help set up a winner-takes-all clash when these two teams meet again on the final weekend of the regular season. This is a huge matchup – so who takes it?

San Francisco’s turnaround this season has been nothing short of sensational. In much the same way that Chicago went from worst to first in the NFC North 2018, the Niners have turned the NFC West on its head this season and they have done it thanks to a blistering start. Kyle Shanahan’s team have reeled off eight straight victories to boast the only flawless record remaining in the NFL and in recent weeks they have silenced those doubters who felt that their 100% record was mainly down to a favourable schedule. Yes, the Niners have faced a string of poor teams through the first nine weeks of the season, but they shut down the Los Angeles Rams at the Coliseum in week six and ran over Carolina a fortnight ago, putting up a season-high 51 points in a rout.

They are not just getting the job done on one side of the football either. The defense has been downright dominant so far, ranking 1st in yards allowed, second in points given up and fourth in turnovers, but the offense has also looked sharp with a punishing ground game racking up yards and points while eating up the clock. Jimmy Garoppolo has had his moments through the air too, so everything is looking pretty rosy at Levi’s Stadium right now.

Seattle, of course, will be looking to change all of that and they arrive on the back of a couple of important wins that have prevented them from falling further behind their hosts. They ended off a second-half fightback to beat Atlanta in week eight, and then staged a second-half comeback of their own before finally besting Tampa Bay in overtime last time out. That has pretty much been the story of their season so far – close wins. Of the Seahawks’ seven wins only one has come via more than one score and a big reason for that has been underwhelming play by the defense.

It was not that long ago that Seattle boasted one of the toughest defenses in the entire National Football League, with pundits likening the unit to the 1985 Chicago Bears after their Super Bowl winning season in 2013, but there has been a large overhaul in playing staff on that side of the football since then and this current crop is not a patch on its predecessors, whichever way you look at it. Pete Carroll’s team rank 28th in total yardage allowed and 27th in points given up, while the secondary itself ranks 31st in passing yards allowed and that is something you certainly would not have heard during the ‘Legion of Boom’ days. Therefore this current Seattle group relies heavily on the output of the offense and in turn relies heavily on the play of Russell Wilson, who has put himself firmly in the running for the MVP award with his play this season.

Wilson will do his best to keep the Seahawks in this one, but ultimately I cannot see them keeping pace with the 49ers, especially against this super-tough Niners defense. Therefore I have to suggest backing San Francisco to get the ‘W’ here.
