NFL Monday Night Football predictions for Week 6 of the 2019 NFL season. Will Green Bay maintain their grip on top spot in the NFC North with a home win on Monday Night Football, or can the Detroit Lions continue to be a ‘bogey team’ for the Packers and leave Lambeau Field with the win? Read on for all of our free predictions and betting tips.

Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers (Tuesday 01:15 BST)

There may not be a more competitive division in the entire National Football League than the NFC North heading into week six. It is the only division in the NFL in which all four teams boast a winning record and ahead of this round of games there is only one game separating top from bottom. That means divisional clashes this season could be vital in the race for the postseason and we have a big one on Monday Night Football as the Green Bay Packers play host the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field.

The Packers go into the game atop the division having gone 4-1 through their first five games. I was not completely sold on them after the week one win over a horrible Chicago Bears offense, but with each passing week they have shown progression under first year head coach Matt LeFleur and they are looking more and more like genuine contenders. Offensively things are beginning to come together, as evidenced by the 34-24 win in Dallas that was more emphatic than the final score suggests, and on the defensive side they continue to rack up the turnovers with their three-TO showing against Dallas taking their tally for the season to 11. So what more can they ask for at this time? That is easy, a win over Detroit.

The Lions have hardly been at the forefront of the National Football League in recent years, but they have seemingly had Green Bay’s number, winning each of the last three encounters. And although they were beaten last time out, Detroit should go into this matchup with a great degree of confidence thanks to a promising start to 2019. They misfired horribly on opening day as they blew a lead to tie in Arizona, but since then they have impressively dispatched the Los Angeles Chargers and Philadelphia Eagles, and they went agonisingly close to knocking off the Kansas City Chiefs in week four. It took a last gasp touchdown to condemn them to defeat against one of the favourites to go all the way, but once again they proved that, for the first time in a long time, they are a threat in the North.

That belief will only be strengthened if they can walk into Lambeau Field and leave with the win on Monday night, and while I certainly am not writing off their chances, I have to back the Packers to come out on top. Defensively they continue to force back-breaking turnovers, which spells trouble for a Lions team who have given up possession twice in three of their first four games, and offensively the pieces of the puzzle are beginning to fall into place, meaning they should enjoy a good deal of success against a Detroit defense who have been giving up an average of almost 24 points and 406 yards per game. The Lions will keep this one close and prevent it from turning into a shootout like the loss to Kansas City, but ultimately Green Bay will come out on top.

My second selection is backing Aaron Jones to find the endzone for the home team. The young running back has been held in check on three occasions this season, rushing for 39 yards or less, but last weekend he produced a career-best showing in a hugely important game and that is too much to ignore. Jones rushed for 107 yards and four touchdowns off 19 carries in the win at Dallas, complementing that with 75 yards through the air, so you have to fancy the chances of him hitting paydirt once again as Green Bay maintain their grip on top spot in the NFC North.
