Bookies slash Arizona Hotshots’ odds as resurgence continues in AAF

The Orlando Apollos remain the favourites to win the first ever Alliance of American Football Championship, but the bookmakers believe the resurgent Arizona Hotshots have catapulted themselves right back into contention.

The Hotshots came into the inaugural AAF campaign as the bookmakers’ favourites and lived up to that billing as they won their first two games, but the wheels came off in Week 3 as a defeat to the Salt Lake Stallions sparked a three-game losing run that sent them sliding down the outright betting.

That was not ideal form to be in as they prepared to face then-unbeaten Orlando in Week 6, but Arizona defied the bookmakers with an impressive 22-17 victory and that has proved to be the catalyst for a dramatic upturn in fortunes that has seen them win each of their last three outings.

Last Sunday’s 23-6 victory over Western Conference leaders San Antonio was easily their biggest victory to date, and the bookmakers have responded to that result by shortening the Hotshots to +250 to win the championship, making them the second favourites ahead of a Commanders team that have now drifted to +400.

While Arizona have seen their odds shorten at bet365, so have outright favourites Orlando.

The Apollos responded to that Week 6 loss to the Hotshots by destroying Atlanta a week later, and this past weekend they improved their record to 7-1 as they put up 12 unanswered points in the final five minutes to see off Memphis, forcing the bookies to trim their odds to +100.

And in terms of the rest of the betting, only three other teams can now make the postseason with the Birmingham Iron leading that charge at +500 after they recorded a much-needed win over Atlanta in Week 8.

The Salt Lake Stallions have shortened to +500 after a hugely important win over San Diego, while the Fleet have seen their outright price plummet all the way out to +6600 after that disappointing defeat.
