Sam Twiston-Davies is the latest sports star to sign for Betsafe.

Bettingpro.com speaks to Betsafe's UK Brand Manager Chris Watson about their headline-grabbing Sam Twiston-Davies sponsorship deal, Betsafe's new horse racing product and what the future holds for the rapidly growing online betting brand.

Betsafe are one of the fastest growing online bookmakers and are making their presence felt in the UK market with a number of innovative recent sponsorships. The firm made waves when signing Conor McGregor ahead of his legendary fight with Floyd Mayweather and have followed up with a similar deal with Tony Bellew. Earlier in 2017 Betsafe launched their horse racing product and now they are backing that with their first racing sponsorship, of jockey Sam Twiston-Davies. We caught up with Betsafe's UK Brand Manager Chris Watson to find out more about this deal and what others Betsafe have planned for the future.

This is the first horse racing sponsorship for Betsafe. What made you pick Sam?

 
Sam embodies all of the values and virtues of our brand, he’s passionate, dynamic and competes to win in everything that he does.  Jockeys have to overcome adversity, injury and disappointment on a continuous basis to reach the top of their sport and these of traits make Sam a perfect fit for our Passion Overcomes the Odds campaign.
 

How do you see Sam fitting in with Betsafe’s other brand ambassadors such as Conor McGregor and Tony Bellew? 

 
All of our ambassadors have different skills, sports and backgrounds, but they are united by a common thread of passion, determination and the sheer desire to be the best in their respective arenas. 
 

Is this the start of a move into horse racing sponsorship in general for Betsafe?

 
Betsafe have launched a large number of initiatives this year to support our industry leading Racing Product which was launched in July.  With over 250,000 races per year, no other brand has more races to bet on, and hopefully this is something that make us stand out to our customers. With a targeted media campaign, compelling content for racing fans and our Horse Racing Ambassador stable of Sam Twiston Davies, Luke Harvey and Rupert Bell on board, Betsafe is the go-to-brand for Racing bets.
 

How have you found the horse racing market since launching your racing product earlier this year?


We’ve had a positive start and been very encouraged by the response to our product.  The horse racing industry is obviously very unique and comes with a rich heritage as well as many competitive challenges, but we think that Betsafe can genuinely offer punters a fantastic betting experience, category leading content, offers and a strong user experience.
 

Do you find the racing punters are generally sharper than those betting on other sports?

 
All customers are different with their own appetite, interests and habits.  We have been very keen (and remain so) to engage all our existing customers with our racing product as well as getting racing customers to try our wider Sportsbook, Casino and Poker products which continue to receive strong feedback.
 

What are the future plans for Betsafe’s horse racing product? Any new innovations in the pipeline?

 
We are constantly making improvements to our product behind the scenes and new updates are regularly being rolled out. 

What about the Cheltenham Festival? Should we expect to see a heavy Betsafe presence at Prestbury Park?

 
Cheltenham is a spectacle of UK racing and a week punters look forward to all year long.  While sponsorships at the festival are generally locked down on long term deals to other bookmakers, we expect Betsafe to be at the forefront of conversation around the festival through unique and exclusive content.
 

Finally, any hints of any other big announcements from Betsafe in 2018?

Watch this space…  Having secured Conor McGregor, Saracens Rugby club and Sam Twiston Davies inside the last six months alone, the sky is the limit with Betsafe and we aim to constantly challenge, inspire and stand out from the crowd.
