Tampa Bay entered the All-Star break with 76 points after compiling a 37-10-2 record in 49 games. They are currently 14 points clear of the Toronto Maple Leafs in the Atlantic Division.

Nikita Kucherov and Brayden Point have been instrumental in the Lightning’s success this season. Kucherov leads the league in points (78) and assists (56) while Point is tied with Toronto’s John Tavares and Buffalo’s Jeff Skinner in second place for most goals with 30. They are just behind Washington’s Alex Ovechkin, who has 37 points. Steven Stamkos is also doing well for the Lightning this season.

Tampa Bay’s defence is also solid with goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy being ranked third overall in saves percentage behind Robin Lehner of the New York Islanders and Jack Campbell of the Los Angeles Kings.

The Lightning won their only Stanley Cup title in 2004 at the expense of the Calgary Flames and last reached the championship series in 2015 where they lost to the Chicago Blackhawks in six games.

The Flames, meanwhile, are the second favourites to lift the oldest existing trophy in North American professional sports.

The Flames own the best record in the Western Conference with 71 points (33-13-5). The Canadian club is being led by Johnny Gaudreau, who is ranked third in the league with 73 points (29 goals and 44 assists). Calgary also boast of Sean Monahan, Elias Lindholm, Matthew Tkachuk and Mark Giordano. The Flames won their only Stanley Cup in 1989.

The Winnipeg Jets and Maple Leafs are currently ranked third in the outright odds market.

The Jets currently lead the Central Division with 64 points (31-15-2). Although they entered the break with a road loss to Dallas, Paul Maurice’s wards had won four in a row and six of their last seven games. Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele will lead Winnipeg in their quest for a maiden Stanley Cup triumph along with goaltender Connor Hellebuyck.

The Maple Leafs (30-17-2, 62 points) were the pre-season favourites with the acquisition of John Tavares in the offseason but they are struggling lately to fall behind Tampa Bay in the Atlantic Division. Auston Matthews also missed several games due to injury and Toronto were without ace goalie Frederik Andersen and back-up Garret Sparks at one point.

Toronto last lifted the Stanley Cup in 1967 - the longest title drought in the NHL.
