NHL betting tips from's expert, including the best bets from Toronto Maple Leafs at Buffalo Sabres and Washington Capitals at Vegas Golden Knights

Toronto Maple Leafs at Buffalo Sabres (00:30 GMT on Wednesday)

The Toronto Maple Leafs and Buffalo Sabres  square off at the KeyBank Centre in the first meeting between the Atlantic Division rivals this season. The Maple Leafs (19-8-0, 38 points) extended their winning run to four games after posting a 5-3 win at Minnesota on Saturday. The game was tied before Nazem Kadri and Zach Hyman scored back-to-back goals late in the third period. Auston Matthews, Tyler Ennis and Zach Hyman also scored for Toronto while Mitch Marner tallied two assists. Frederick Anderson had another dominant performance on the crease with 38 saves. The Sabres (17-8-3, 37 points), meanwhile, have lost three in a row following a 10-game winning streak. They concluded a three-game trip with a 2-1 loss at Nashville on Monday night. Sam Reinhart scored Buffalo’s only goal as they dropped to third place in the division after briefly taking the top spot last week. Toronto and Buffalo split their four meetings last season. The Maple Leafs own the best road record in the league this season that’s why we are backing them to triumph in New York.

Washington Capitals at Vegas Golden Knights (03:00 GMT on Wednesday)

The Washington Capitals visit the Vegas Golden Knights at the T-Mobile Arena in the second meeting between last season’s Stanley Cup finalists this season. Led by Evgeny Kuznetsov (1 goal, 3 assists), Alex Ovechkin (2 goals) and Nicklas Backstrom (1 goal, 1 assist), the Capitals blasted the Golden Knights 5-2 at home last October 10. TJ Oshie also scored for the defending champions while Braden Holtby made 29 saves. Cody Eakin and Reilly Smith were the goal scorers for Vegas, who beat Washington in Game 1 of last season’s Stanley Cup finals but were swept in the succeeding games. The Capitals (15-8-3, 33 points) are determined to get back on track after their seven-game winning streak was ended by Anaheim on Sunday. The defending Stanley Cup champions seemed to be on their way to extending their winning run when they took a 5-1 lead midway through the second period. However, Anaheim countered with two goals before the end of the period and struck thrice in the third period to the shock of the fans at the Capital One Arena. Kuznetsov had a goal and an assist to pace Washington in their heartbreaking 6-5 home loss to the Ducks. Washington’s other goals came from Nicklas Backstrom, Chandler Stephenson, Tom Wilson and Nic Dowd. Oshie has been ruled out of Washington’s three-game trip with an upper body injury. We are backing the Capitals to extend their unbeaten streak.
