Bookies avoid big beating despite Tiger Roll’s historic Grand National win

Tiger Roll lined the pockets of punters once again on Saturday afternoon, but his history-making win did not result in a gigantic beating for the bookmakers.

Going off as one of the shortest-priced favourites in the race’s history, Tiger Roll was able to emulate Red Rum with back-to-back Grand National wins this weekend, and Ladbrokes has described Gordon Elliot’s superstar as a “very popular winner”.

However, Tiger Roll’s victory did not result in a serious bashing for the bookies.

“Tiger Roll is the most popular Grand National winner since Red Rum,” Ladbrokes’ Nicola McGeady told Bettingpro.com.

“Time and time again the Gordon Elliott-trained superstar has rewarded punters and Saturday’s victory is the sweetest one yet.

“It's never good for the bookies when the favourite wins but thanks to the places, we avoided taking too heavy a beating.”
