Nigel Seeley’s three from the tee for the Wells Fargo Championship

Nigel Seeley 30 Apr 2019

Wells Fargo Championship betting tips for this week. Read on for our expert tips for the Wells Fargo Championship taking place on the Red Course at Quail Hollow.

Wells Fargo Championship

We are back to normal this week on the PGA Tour calendar after the Zurich Classic pairs nonsense and proper golf returns with the Wells Fargo Championship from Quail Hollow.

This, for the majority of the leading contenders is their first venture back onto a golf course since The Masters and it's a daunting return as Quail Hollow was ranked as the toughest par 71 course outside a major for last season.

This week's line-up is a strong one and the betting markets continue to be headed by Rory McIlroy and this week it's not a major surprise as he is a two time winner at this venue and is the all-time money earner at Quail Hollow with six top 10s, but even with all those course records in his favour he is no value at all at a tournament best price of 13/2.

Next in the betting is last year’s winner Jason Day at 11/1 and  although the Australian is always in contention in tournaments,  that was his last success and despite  finishing in 9th at the 2017 USPGA, which was also held at Quail Hollow he again is one to overlook at the prices.

Three From The Tee

Phil Mickelson @ 28/1 bet365
* Odds correct at 09:37 BST on 30/04/2019

To win this week you are going to have to be very patient and have course experience as the conditions will be tough and my headline tip is the most experienced player in the field PHIL MICKELSON at 28/1 with bet365.

Mickelson is the second in the all-time money list at this venue behind McIlroy and despite never winning here, he's had EIGHT top five finishes in just 15 visits.

Mickelson will be looking to emulate his arch-rival Tiger Woods, after his success at The Masters and roll back the years which he did earlier in the season with a success at the AT&T Pebble Beach and on the back of a top 20 finish at Augusta and at a venue he loves and in conditions which he will thrive on he has to be in contention at the weekend.

Hideki Matsuyama @ 20/1 William Hill

This man is becoming a regular in this column and there is a lot to like about HIDEKI MATSUYAMA again this week at 20/1 with William Hill.

The Japanese star has a good course record with three top 20s and 5th place finish at the 2017 USPGA in only five starts at Quail Hollow and in good form he will go close to winning his first tournament since his return from a wrist injury last year.

Matsuyama started slowly at Augusta at The Masters, but ended in well at the weekend to see him finish just outside the top 30. Since returning from his injury he hasn't missed a cut in nine months and he is playing some really steady golf with five top 20 finishes in his last seven events and second on the Tour in strokes gained: tee to green. Hideki Matsuyama @ 20/1 William Hill

LUCAS GLOVER is my final suggestion for this week at what is a massive 50/1 with Ladbrokes.

Glover is currently playing the best golf of his career and he's changed the way he's been putting and his reaping the rewards after an amazing 11 top 20 finishes in his 14 starts this season.

Glover has played every year at this event since 2004 and won it in 2011 and was runner-up in 2009 and boasts three other top 10 finishes and at 55/1 that is the each-way play of the week at a price that won't be around for long.
