Tour Championship betting tips for this week's PGA Tour tournament. Read on for our expert tips for the Tour Championship from the East Lake Golf Club.

Tour Championship

THE winner of the big money FedEx Cup will be crowned this week with the Tour Championships from East Lake, GC, Atlanta, Georgia.

This event has been reinvented by the sponsors and is very different to any other on the PGA Tour with the 30 players left in the race to win the FedEx Cup handed a scoring handicap on how they they have all performed in the build-up to East Lake.

Before a ball has even been hit in-form Justin Thomas will sit at the top of the leader-board at -10 and given his current form and his great East Lake record of 6-2-7 in his last three starts, he will take some stopping and will be very popular with punters and could very easily walk away with the big money prize.

I am not a fan of the new format as due to the handicap system the best player this week is very unlikely to win the event, but I do like the event for one reason only the betting as I believe it gives us the best each-way betting on the golfing year.

Three From The Tee

Patrick Cantlay @ 9/2 with Betfred

PATRICK CANTLAY at 9/2 with Betfred who are 1/5 1-5 in this 30 man field looks a great wager and one that we should get stuck into.

Cantlay is starting at (-8) in the starting leader-board which is two behind Thomas and four clear of the players in sixth place (which is a lot to get of Cantlay).

The American's focus is to chase down the leader who has been vulnerable from the front before and with them playing for a huge $15 million winners cheque along with Cantlay's temperament and his consistency displayed over the season, I am expecting him to land the place money with ease.

Cantlay pushed Thomas close last week at Medinah to finish in runners-up spot and this season in his 20 starts, he's made 15 top 20 finishes , 10 top 10s, six top fives , two runner-ups and a win at The Memorial in June. Unlike many other players around him he will put in four solid rounds and despite the short odds he looks an each-way bet to nothing.

Hideki Matsuyama @ 33/1 with Betfred

Instead of the usual three off the tee that I provide weekly, given the nature of this event and with so many players that you could draw a line under before we even start, my second bet is HIDEKI MATSUYAMA at 33/1 with Betfred.

Matsuayama starts at -3 (which is seven behind Thomas) starting in a tie for 11th, just two shots behind the players sitting in the places and out of the chasing back and given the vulnerability of some of the player above him, he looks the obvious player to emerge from the chasing pack

Over the last few months I have tipped the Japanese star a number of times in this column, but despite some excellent golf played in patches this season after his return from injury, he has just fallen short of his sixth PGA win.

Last week was a perfect example of Matsuyama's season where he finished in third place, ending on the Sunday with an excellent round of 73 which will see him arrive this week in great form and confident as he can play aggressive golf and go low again at a venue where he has had two top five finishes in two of his last three visits. No player on the PGA Tour hits it straighter than Matsuayama and his driving stats were impressive yet again last week, and if he can maintain that, which I am expecting him to, then he will compete for the $15 million winners cheque.
