He made hard work for it for the first 13 holes on Sunday, but Jordan Spieth turned on the style during the final five to claim the Claret Jug.

18:08 23 Jul

LATEST: Jordan Spieth two shots clear with two holes to go

Has Jordan Spieth found a hot hand at the right time? He has gone birdie-eagle-birdie from 14 to 16 and he now boasts a two-shot lead with two holes to play!

16:53 23 Jul

LATEST: Kuchar & Spieth tied for lead with 7 holes to go

Jordan Spieth (8/13 bet365) is making a mess of his last round at The Open - he is once again sharing the lead with Matt Kuchar (7/4), with the pair locked on eight-under after 11 holes.

15:36 23 Jul

LATEST: Jordan Spieth back in front after much-needed birdie

Jordan Spieth (2/5 bet365) saw his three-shot overnight lead disappear with three bogeys in his first four holes, but the American has bounced back with a birdie at the fifth and that has sent him one shot clear of Matt Kuchar (11/4) at the summit. It looks like this last day is going to be a thriller!

15:08 23 Jul

LATEST: Matt Kuchar within one shot of leader Jordan Spieth

Matt Kuchar (9/4 bet365) is within one shot of Jordan Spieth (4/9 bet365) after their first two holes. Maybe it's a good time to point out this stat...

13:52 23 Jul

LATEST: Open Championship Without Spieth & Kuchar Market

The final day of The Open is likely to be a two-way battle for the Claret Jug between Jordan Spieth and Matt Kuchar - but who will be the best of the rest?

Bookmaker bet365 is offering a "Without Spieth & Kuchar" market at this time, and with only two shots separating eight players there is value to be had with Brooks Koepka heading the market at 7/2 ahead of Hideki Matsuyama (9/2), Branden Grace and Dustin Johnson (both 11/2).

Jordan Spieth is the 2/7 favourite to win The Open Championship heading into the final round after a second bogey-free round of the week gave him a three-shot lead on Saturday. William Hill expect him to complete the job today, with Matt Kuchar and Brooks Koepka next up in the betting at 9/2 and 201/ respectively.

Latest William Hill Odds:

The Open: 2/7 Jordan Spieth, 9/2 Matt Kuchar, 20/1 Brooks Koepka, 33/1 Hideki Matsuyama, 40/1 Branden Grace, 50/1 Rory Mcllroy, 50/1 Dustin Johnson, 66/1 Henrik Stenson.

Jordan Spieth 1/4 favourite heading into final day at The Open

Jordan Spieth is the red hot 1/4 favourite to win The Open Championship heading into the final round, according to bookmaker William Hill.

The American takes a three-shot lead over 9/2 Matt Kuchar, whose dream of lifting the Claret Jug may have gone up in smoke when he double-bogeyed the 16th.

“As it stands Jordan Spieth looks very hard to beat,” William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams told Bettingpro.com.

Latest William Hill Odds:

The Open: 1/4 Jordan Spieth, 9/2 Matt Kuchar, 18/1 Brooks Koepka, 33/1 Hideki Matsuyama, 40/1 Branden Grace, 50/1 Rory Mcllroy, 50/1 Dustin Johnson, 66/1 Henrik Stenson, 100/1 Others

Final Day Three Leaderboard

Stunning from Spieth. A birdie on 18 for a 65 moves him three shots clear of Matt Kuchar and five ahead of Austin Connolly and Brooks Koepka. It really is Spieth's title to lose and the American is just 2/9 with bet365 to complete the third leg of his career Grand Slam at just 23 years old.
19:17 22 Jul

Kuchar Double Bogeys: Spieth Has 3 Shot Lead

Massive moment at Birkdale as Matt Kuchar makes a double bogey on 16. He's now three shots behind Jordan Spieth, who must feel like he has one hand on the Claret Jug at the moment.

Spieth Odds-On

There may be 28 holes to go but the bookies have decided that Jordan Spieth will win The Open. The American is now odds-on at 8/11 with bet365 and it is very much his title to lose.
17:11 22 Jul

Spieth Goes to -8

Jordan Spieth is the world's best putter and he proves it again with a beautiful stroke at the 7th to move to -2 for the day and -8 for the tournament. He's now two ahead of Matt Kuchar and four ahead of the rest of the field.

McIlroy Begins with a Birdie

Branden Grace has shown what can be done today at Royal Birkdale. Can Rory McIlroy emulate him? A birdie start helps. The Northern Irishman is now -2 and four behind Jordan Spieth.
15:31 22 Jul

Branden Grace 28/1 to win The Open

The bookies don't think THAT much of Branden Grace's 62. He's still a 28/1 shot with bet365 to win The Open.
15:18 22 Jul

Branden Grace: History Maker

Branden Grace is the first man in history to shoot a 62 at a major championship. A 62. Unbelievable from the South African, who is now second and just two shots behind Jordan Spieth (who is out at 15:55 BST).
14:28 22 Jul

Branden Grace Eyeing Course Record

The course record at Royal Birkdale is 63. Branden Grace is -6 with four to play. Two birdies on the last two holes and he'll break the record!

20:19 21 Jul

Tommy Fleetwood Makes the Cut

Huge cheery as Tommy Fleetwood becomes only the seventh player today to go under par with a 69 to finish on the cut line of +5.

It won't be Fleetwood's week at Royal Birkdale but that was a great comeback from the local boy to ensure that he, and his fans, will be back this weekend.
20:07 21 Jul

Happy Open Friday from Ian Baker-Finch

19:58 21 Jul

Jordan Spieth Seals Halfway Lead

He gave a shot back to Royal Birkdale but Jordan Spieth's second round 69, coupled with his opening 65, sees him sitting top of the halfway leaderboard. The American will play with compatriot Matt Kuchar in the final group tomorrow. It remains to be seen how much of an advantage that is though as the weather has gotten progressively worse today and is now abysmal.
19:35 21 Jul

Alfie Plant wins Silver Medal

Alfie Plant has been confirmed as the only amateur to make the cut, which means that the Englishman has won the Silver Medal at The Open Championship!
19:10 21 Jul

Spieth Moves to -7 and 3 Shot Lead

Another birdie for Jordan Spieth, who is now 11/10 with bet365 to win The Open. Everyone else is going backwards but the American is going forwards and is now three shots clear of second placed Matt Kuchar and four clear of Ian Poulter, Brooks Koepka and Richard Bland.

Leaderboard

-7 Spieth
-4 Kuchar
-3 Poulter, Koepka, Bland
18:36 21 Jul

Leaderboard Update: Spieth Continues to Lead in Tough Conditions

It's becoming harder and harder to make par at Royal Birkdale and that projected cut line has indeed moved to +5. One  man unaffected by it all is Jordan Spieth, who is just cruising along at -1 for the day and -6 for the week.
15:39 21 Jul

Projected Cut +4

At the moment the projected cut is +4 but the conditions are getting worse and worse at Birkdale. Might end up being +5 or +6 which is goofd news for the likes of Lee Westwood (+5), Jason Day (+5) and maybe even local boy Tommy Fleetwood (+6).
15:02 21 Jul

Spieth Birdies the Opening Hole

All of the talk of over par being okay today doesn't apply to Jordan Spieth. One hole. One under for the day. New leader on -6.
13:23 21 Jul

Bookmakers Expecting Leaders to be Over Par on Friday

Staying still is the new going forward at Birkdale, with the bookmakers seemingly convinced that the leaders won't go under par. Matt Kuchar, who is set to shoot par, and stay at -5 for the tournament, is even money to be the leader by the end of play tonight.
13:05 21 Jul

Zach Johnson Shoots 66

2015 Open champion Zach Johnson has shot the lowest round of the day with a four under par 66. Conditions are getting worse at Royal Birkdale and it's unlikely that anyone will beat that. The American, who shot 75 yesterday, has moved from missing the cut to in contention.

Kuchar Makes Birdie and Takes the Lead

11:30 21 Jul

Another Bridie from Rory: Now Second Favourite to Win The Open

Another birdie from Rory!

The bookmakers have cottoned on to his turnaround though and now make him the 15/2 second favourite to win The Open. That price is with bet365 and is the best you're going to get at the moment.
11:00 21 Jul

Latest Leaderboard: Live Update

Not much movement at the top of the leaderboard. Matt Kuchar had briefly gone to -6 but gave a shot back to Birkdale.

Keep an eye on Rory McIlroy today. The Northern Irishman was +5 through six holes yesterday but fought back and was arguably the best player on the course from 7 onwards, finishing on +1. He's started with two birdies in his opening five today and we could be about to see something special from the former champion.

Final Day One Leaderboard

Here we go, your Day One leaderboard, with three Americans - Jordan Spieth, Matt Kuhcar and Brooks Koepka - leading the way on -5. Paul Casey and Ian Poulter head the home charge and Charl Schwartzel is doing it for the rest of the world. A long way to go though and, if today is anything to go by, it's going to be exciting!

Kuchar Joins Spieth & Koepka with 65

Matt Kuchar makes it a hat-trick of Americans in the clubhouse on -5 after a bogey free 65. Strange to say but Kuch might feel a little disappointed with today as he had chances for much, much better.

There aren't many players left that can catch the leaders and it would be a surprise now if anyone went lower than -5 tonight.

Kuchar Misses Birdie Putt on 17

Matt Kuchar, aka the happiest man in golf, still manages to smile, despite missing a massive chance to make birdie on 17. He remains joint leader but could be much lower today if he had made a few more putts.

Still, he's faring better than Rory McIlroy, who is missing putts as well but is stuck on +4. If he doesn't make a few in the closing holes then the Northern Irishman might not make the weekend.

Some good news for British supporters though as Paul Casey finishes on 4 under par to join Charley Hoffman just behind the leaders.

Leaderboard

-5 Spieth, Koepka, Kuchar
-4 Casey, Hoffman
-3 Poulter, Thomas, Bland, Connelly, Na

Andrew Johnston on the Royal Birkdale Crowd

Andrew 'Beefy' Johnston, who finished his opening round on -1 after going -3 for the final four holes on Day One was asked about the crowd at Royal Birkdale and if he could switch off from the legions of fans cheering him on.

"I can’t do it. Honestly, if I stay that focused for five hours, I’ll have a headache after nine holes, seriously. And I just like to go out and hit my shot, you know. Go out and switch on, hit my shot and once we have time, we have four or five minutes, and walk down to the ball and stuff like that. So I just like to relax. And if people shout, I’m going to wave at them and have a good time along the way."

Americans Dominating Day One at Royal Birkdale

Look at that leaderboard. All red and white and blue at the top with only Ian Poulter and Richard Bland splitting the Americans. Unusual for The Open but the links specialists seem to be struggling.

Jordan Spieth Shoots 65

Jordan Spieth has shot the joint second lowest round in Open history with a 65 on Day One. His five under par virtually ensures that he'll top the leaderboard tonight and it could be a case of the rest of the field chasing the Masters and US Open champion again at a major.

Spieth is 4/1 with bet365 to win The Open and that might be his biggest price for the week from now on.

William Hill reveal Open liabilities: Justin Rose win would cost £500,000

William Hill can report that Justin Rose (20/1) is by far the worst result for British bookmakers with liabilities of over £500,000 for Hills alone. Tommy Fleetwood (25/1) is the second worst result but perhaps the biggest surprise of the lot has been a move for Padraig Harrington (66/1) who is all but certain to go off as the bookies third worst result.

“It has been a very busy day and the gamble on Justin Rose has gathered pace since the shops opened this morning,” said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.

BetVictor Betting 16/1 The Field in The Open

BetVictor bet 16/1 the field in the Open Championship which begins at Royal Birkdale on Thursday - the most wide open Major tournament in living memory.

Spokesperson Charlie McCann told Bettingpro:

"When Dustin Johnson won the US Open last summer there was talk of a Johnson dynasty - yet here we are less than 12 months on and we are betting 16/1 the field in the Open Championship. History suggests Birkdale can throw up a bit of a surprise with Ian Baker-Finch champion back in 1991 and it would be no surprise if the layers got another result on the Lancashire coast this weekend."

Open Championship: EW 6 places - prices from BetVictor
Dustin Johnson                                               16/1
