Saudi International

A star-studded field is gathered on the European Tour this week for the inaugural Saudi International from the King Abdullah Economic City at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club.

The market is headed by last week’s winners on both the European and PGA Tour Bryson Dechambeau and World number one Justin Rose with both players the 13/2 joint favourites to win back to back events, and of the two I would have to slightly favour the American to have a better week after the extra travelling Rose has had to contend with over the last couple of days.

The World number two and number three golfers are also in attendance with Brooks Koepka and Dustin Johnson and they are 10/1 and 8/1 respectively and with Dechambeau in the field this European Tour event has four of the top five in the World playing.

Out of those top four in the betting Dustin Johnson would be the one that I would side with to have a better week, but the motivation for the top players might be a problem and they might be just here for some nice appearance money.

Three From The Tee

Last week IAN POULTER was one of my three of the tee and the Englishman put in a great run to land the place money after finish in third place in the Desert Classic and I really like his chances again this week at a very nice looking 25/1.

Poulter, will relish the opportunity of going up against the World's best and he should be after the start he's made to the new season with no worse than a eighth finish in his three starts with an impressive third and a sixth in the last two events in similar conditions to what he will face again this week.

Poulter always starts fast with opening rounds of 67, 66 and 62 in those three events so he's always a contender for the first round leader market, but what really impressed me last week was he closed in Dubai with a faultless round of 64 which will see him arrive in Saudi Arabia full of confidence and a confident Poulter is a danger for everyone in the field.

Another Englishman who reminds me of Poulter is my second best this week and that is MATT WALLACE who is also a 25/1 chance with most bookies.

Wallace is one of the best battlers on the European Tour and he is a golfer who I am expecting big things of in 2019.

Wallace won four events European Tour events last season and he's already started this year on fire.

Last week in Dubai he finished runner-up to DeChambeau and that was his second runner-up spot in his last five events and with top 20 finishes in his last eight starts and four top 10s in those tournaments as well, he is another who is in great form and full of confidence and will be there or thereabouts at the business end on Sunday.

Thorbjorn Olesen @ 33/1 Ladbrokes

My final pick is another one of my selections from last week and it's Denmark's THORBJORN OLESEN at 33/1 with Ladbrokes.

Olesen broke into the European Ryder Cup team last year after an impressive 24 months and the "Great Dane" is another player who I believe is going to be a major force this season and he is more than capable of winning this event.

All of my selections this week have come of a back of a good week in Dubai and won't have to do much travelling and Olesen was another who impressed in the desert with a seventh finish with four sub 70 rounds.

Seven most Olsen's lucky number as he also finished in that position at the end of last year at the Turkish Airlines Open and the HSBC Champions event and with a fourth in the World Cup of golf sandwiched between those events, he is looking good for a decent week and a great year.
