Maybank Championship

The European Tour returns this week with not the best of events, the Maybank Championship from Saujana Golf Club in from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

This isn't one of the best fields assembled and again it plays second fiddle to the PGA Tour event in Florida and it also looks one of the toughest events to find the winner of on the European Tour this season with big hitting Belgian Thomas Pieters the unsteady bookies favourite at 16/1 which is available with most layers.

Three From The Tee

The former European Ryder Cup star is arguably the biggest name in the field and for that reason will have the public support, but he's not in the best of form and doesn't deserve to be the market leader this week and the man who should top the bookies lists ahead of Pieters is Spain's in-form JORGE CAMPILLO and at 20/1 he looks primed to win his first Tour event at a venue he enjoys playing.

The 32 year-old rookie is really close to winning for the first time after two impressive back to back runner-up spots in Qatar and Oman earlier this month and with a second place here as well last year and a fourth place finish in 2016, playing the best golf of his career and at the venue where he has produced his best form he will go close and despite being a rookie, he should be backed at the stand-out 20/1 with Betfair Sportsbook.

Fabrizio Zanotti @ 25/1 William Hill

FABRIZIO ZANOTTI should've landed us a 60/1 winner for this column a fortnight ago at the Oman Open, but the Paraguayan four putted on the 16th from a winning position to finish in runners-up spot, which I still have nightmares about.

He impressively managed to put that behind him a week later to again impress in Doha to finish just outside the top 10 and at 25/1 with William Hill and Ladbrokes I am expecting another decent display from a previous winner of this event. Zanotti won in Malaysia in 2017 and has also had two top 20 finishes and the two time European Tour winner and in-form player looks the best each-way bet this week.

Pablo Larrazabal @ 50/1 Ladbrokes

PABLO LARRAZABAL has had a mixed start to 2019 with a missed cut in Oman and a below par performance in both Qatar and Saudi Arabia but two top 10s in the Alfred Dunhill Championships and in Abu Dhabi is what I would prefer to concentrate on.

The Spaniard is one of the better players in the field and he is a four time European Tour winner and most importantly for me is he's record at this event, is an impressive one with a third finish last year and four top 10 finishes in his last five visits and with a record like that he should never be quoted at 50/1 for the win which is available at Ladbrokes.
