World number one Dustin Johnson is the 10/1 favourite to win the USPGA Championship after claiming his third PGA Tour title of the season at the Canadian Open this past weekend.

Johnson travelled to Canada looking to put behind him a miserable showing at the Open Championship that saw him fail to make the cut, and the 34-year-old did just that as he shot a six-under-par final round to pull clear of his rivals and win the tournament by three shots.

“Even after the missed cut last week, I felt like I was hitting it fine,” Johnson told reporters. “I just did not score very well at Carnoustie at all.

“I didn't putt good and I just scored really badly, but I felt like I hit the ball plenty good enough to be under par after two days and I was 5 over or something. It was just bad scoring.

“I needed to work on the putter though, which I did. I started rolling the putter a lot better here this week and really, really hit the ball well all four days.”

Johnson may not have been panicking, but his showing at Glenn Abbey will have given him a big lift as he prepares for the final Major tournament of the 2018 season, the USPGA Championship, which gets underway on August 9.

It has also given the bookmakers more confidence to back him and in the wake of his Canadian Open success, Johnson has gone from a 12/1 joint favourite for the USPGA Championship to an outright favourite at 10/1 at bet365.

Rory McIlroy, a two-time winner of this Major tournament, is considered his main rival at 12/1 alongside Jordan Spieth, with Justin Rose next up at 18/1 ahead of defending champion Justin Thomas on 20/1.

Thomas is joined on 20s by Open Championship winner Francesco Molinari and US Open champion Brooks Koepka, as well as Tommy Fleetwood and former world number one Tiger Woods.
