DP World Tour Championships betting tips: The Bettingpro team share their picks for the European Tour finale

Neil Roarty in Golf 14 Nov 2017

The Bettingpro.com team each pick out one player who they will be backing to win the DP World Tour Championships, which is the culmination of the Race to Dubai Play Offs and the final event of the 2017 European Tour season

Gary Emmerson: Back Justin Rose @6/1 with Paddy Power

There not an great value in backing Justin Rose to win the DP World Tour Championship, but he's a man in form and can make it three wins from his last three tournaments and win the Race To Dubai in the process. Rose won the WGC-HSBC Champions and the Turkish Airlines Open before having last week off to rest before the final push at Jumeirah Golf Estates this week. He has been runner-up twice in the event before in 2012 and 2014 and knows how to get over the line in the European Tour Order of Merit having won the season-ending event in Spain in 2007 to be crowned champion. In his current form, I'm expecting him to pip long-time points standings leader Fleetwood in dramatic fashion.

I'm a big fan of Rafael Cabrera Bello and it is pleasing to see him start to get some success in big events. The Spaniard won the Scottish Open and then finished T4 at The Open Championship before following up with a fifth place at the WGC HSBC Champions. He also had top five finishes at the FedEx St Jude's and the Players Championship plus a few minor events on the European Tour. He hasn't quite managed to win as many tournaments as he should in his career but he does have winning form in Dubai, having claimed victory in the Dubai Desert Classic back in 2012. He followed that with a second place in 2016 and his record at the DP World Championships isn't too bad either. Cabrera-Bello's finishes of 14-9-22-23 in his last four attempts here show that he is adept at getting in the mix. His form this season is his best yet and three top 10s in his last four starts indicate a player that is ready to pounce. Odds of 40/1 look very generous and he's a very strong each-way proposition this week.

Leigh Copson: Back Justin Rose @6/1 with Paddy Power

I am with Gary for this one. Justin Rose arrives at the DP World Tour Championship as a man in fine form following those victories at the WGC-HSBC Champions and the Turkish Airlines Open, and as Gary pointed out, he does have a solid track record in this event having twice finished runner-up over this course. Rose’s form and history are hard to ignore and of course, the Race To Dubai Trophy is a major incentive to make it three straight tournament wins, so I am backing the Englishman here.

Jon Wilde: Back Thorbjorn Olesen @ 40/1 with MarathonBet

I backed Olesen for this tournament last year and while I left my money behind on that occasion, the same principles compel me to go in for him again 12 months on.

The Dane is a four-time European Tour winner, the latest of which was at the 2016 Turkish Airlines Open and he put up a spirited defence of that title a fortnight ago when he finished fifth, while also ending up inside the top dozen at the Nedbank last week.

Olesen generally plays very well at desert courses such as this and has never finished worse than 21st in his six previous appearances at this event, so he looks sure to give us a good run for our money.
