Tiger Woods is aiming to end a 10-year US Open drought when this Major tournament gets underway on Thursday, and bookmaker William Hill is fearing the prospect of the world number one pulling it off.

Dustin Johnson is the 8/1 favourite at the time of writing, but betting on the second Major of the season has turned into ‘The Tiger Woods Show’ with punters piling their cash into the three-time US Open winner.

Woods is an 18/1 shot to win this tournament for the first time since 2008, and if he does get the job done at Shinnecock Hills Golf Course it will be a costly result for William Hill.

“Tiger has one of the most loyal followings in sport,” William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams told Bettingpro.com. “Once again he looks set to be a terrible result for the bookies.”

2011 winner Rory McIlroy is the 12/1 second favourite ahead 14/1 shots Justin Rose and Justin Thomas, while defending champion Brooks Koepka is 20/1 to become the first man to win back-to-back US Open titles since Curtis Strange achieved the feat in 1988 and 1989.
