Bettingpro's new expert Nigel Seeley offers his three best bets for the Alfred Dunhill Links Championships at Leopard Creek GC in South Africa.

Alfred Dunhill Links Championships

What a month it's been since starting my weekly golfing column here at Bettingpro.

Last week Louis Oosterhuizen landed us an 8/1 headline tip at the South African Open which came on the back of a 12/1 winner in the World Cup of Golf and 50/1 & 16/1 runners-up in the last four weeks.

This week we are looking to maintain that fantastic record and end the year on a high with the last golf tournament of 2018 the Alfred Dunhill Links Championships from Leopard Creek GC in South Africa.

Last week’s winner Oosterhuizen tops the betting list at just 5/1 and although he's in fine form arriving here on the back of his six-stroke win in Johannesburg, it's still very hard to win back-to-back titles and although he's got an excellent record in his homeland another South African player is fancied to upstage King Louis at Leopard Creek .

Three From The Tee

1) Charl Schwartzel @ 7/1 Paddy Power

CHARL SCHWARTZEL looks a fantastic each-way bet at 7/1 with Paddy Power who are offering 1/5 the odds 1-8 and those extra places make this virtually a bet to nothing and one you should be having to get the Christmas money.

Schwartzel has an incredible record at Leopard Creek winning this tournament a staggering FOUR times and with three wins in the last five years and a fourth finish in 2017, those extra places look very appealing for this course specialist.

The 11 time European tour winner didn't have the best of seasons last year, but he showed an encouraging return to form with a eighth finish at the Omega European Masters and in the last couple of weeks on his return to South Africa he looks close to his best with three nice rounds at the Nedbank and an impressive third at the South African Open last week and returning to his favourite venue on the calendar the 34 year-old will certainly be in the mix on Sunday evening.

2) Brandon Stone @ 22/1 bet365

ANOTHER South African gets my support in a field that is dominated by homebased players and my second selection is defending champion BRANDON STONE at the general 22/1.

Stone ran-away with the title last year winning by seven shots carding a course record breaking 22 under par total and anyway near a performance like that will see the three time European Tour winner defend his title with ease.

Stone, is another like Schwartzl who usually plays his best golf in South Africa and that was evident for all to see last week with a seventh finish at the South African Open, with the highlight a error free final round 66 which will see him arriving at Leopard Creek full of confidence and a decent defence expected.

3) Oliver Wilson @ 125/1 bet365

My final selection is an English man who is massive at the general bookies quotes of 125/1 and that is OLIVER WILSON.

I really don't understand this price on the 38 year-old, this isn't the best field assembled on the European Tour and Wilson unlike many in this field is a European Tour winner and is in great form.

Wilson had to go to qualifying school last season to gain back his tour card and although he missed the cut at the Mauritius Open a fortnight ago at the South African Open last weekend he rolled back the years with a third place finish, which was even more impressive as he started the tournament with a disappointing 73, but closed with rounds of 66, 68 and 67.

Not only did last week’s win boost his confidence and bank balance, but it gained him a spot at next year’s Open Championships and now that his got his golf game back on track odds of 125/1 have to be taken.
