Tiger Woods 20/1 to win USPGA Championship after ‘stinging’ Open Championship slip-up

Tiger Woods is 20/1 to end his Major drought at the 2018 USPGA Championship after a couple of slip-ups on the back nine ended his bid to win the Open Championship on Sunday.

Woods has not won one of golf’s Majors since winning the US Open for the 3rd time back in 2008, but he shot his lowest round at a Major since 2011 when he carded a five-under-par 66 on Saturday, and he continued to roll back the years on Sunday when he took the lead at seven-under.

However, a double-bogey at the 11th put a major dent in his quest to lift the Claret Jug for the fourth time in his career, and a bogey at the very next hole seemingly ended his challenge as Francesco Molinari pulled away and went on to win by two shots.

“I had a great opportunity,” Woods said afterwards.

“I know it's going to sting for a little bit here - but given where I was to where I am now, I feel blessed. It felt great to be a part of the mix and build my way into the championship. It was a blast.

“I was saying earlier that I need to try and keep it in perspective because, at the beginning of the year, if they'd have said you're playing The Open Championship I would have said I'd be very lucky to do that.”

The 42-year-old American now has one last chance to win a Major this year, with the USPGA Championship coming up in early August, and at 20/1 with bet365* the bookmaker believes the ex-world number one could be among the front-runners once again.

However, the bookies are still leaning towards the ‘usual suspects’ at the very top of the betting, with Dustin Johnson a 12/1 joint favourite despite his nightmare showing at Carnoustie.

Rory McIlroy and Jordan Spieth are also 12/1 after they finished second and ninth respectively at the Open Championship, while Justin Rose is an 18/1 pick after he tied for the runner-up spot alongside McIlroy and Kevin Kisner.
