The 2016 Formula 1 campaign is in the books and Nico Rosberg is not the only one celebrating, because the Bettingpro.com team are also raising a toast to a highly profitable season that produced 21 winners.

Despite finishing second behind Lewis Hamilton in Sunday’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, Rosberg was crowned world champion for the first time in his career thanks to a consistent season that saw him win nine races and finish on the podium 15 times in all.

While Rosberg was the model of consistency on the track, our man Leigh Copson was the same off it as he racked up at least one winning bet on 17 of the 21 races, landing 21 in total.

He made the perfect start as Nico Rosberg’s victory in and Sebastian Vettel’s Top 3 finish in the Australian Grand Prix landed 5/2 and 1/2 winners, and the winning bets kept rolling in as the season wore on with Valtteri Bottas and Daniel Ricciardo joining Hamilton and Rosberg in bringing in regular winners for the Bettingpro.com team.

By the time the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix was wrapped up Leigh had picked out 21 winners (if Hamilton wins, 22 if Ricciardo finishes third), and the team is already looking ahead to another profitable season in 2017.

“It’s been another thrilling season for Formula 1 fans with the drama continuing right through to the final lap in Abu Dhabi on Sunday,” said Bettingpro’s Phil Lowe.
“Lewis Hamilton may not have won this season’s Drivers’ Championship, but his victory on the day made it an incredible 21 winning bets from 21 races for our tipster Leigh Copson, and we’re already looking forward to more winning tips next season!”

Hamilton left himself with too much to do in Abu Dhabi but the bookmakers are already predicting the British star will regain the drivers’ crown in 2017, with William Hill making him the 6/4 favourite ahead of newly-crowned champion Rosberg, who is 11/4 for back-to-back titles.

Red Bull are expected to be back in contention with Ricciardo and team-mate Max Verstappen 4/1 and 9/2 respectively.

“Lewis needs to put this loss behind him and if he can, we make him the favourite to regain his title,” William Hill spokesman Joe Crilly told Bettingpro.com.

Latest William Hill odds:

2017 Drivers’ Championship: 6/4 Lewis Hamilton; 11/4 Nico Rosberg; 4/1 Daniel Ricciardo; 9/2 Max Verstappen; 16/1 Fernando Alonso; 16/1 Sebastian Vettel; 25/1 Stoffel Vandoorne; 33/1 Kimi Raikkonen; 100/1 BAR
