Wolves v Chelsea Betting Tips Explained

Wolves produced one of the biggest upsets of the 2016/17 FA Cup so far when they dumped out Liverpool – at Anfield – in round four. Despite surviving a scare against Plymouth Argyle, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp once again named an inexperienced team in the world’s oldest cup competition and on this occasion it backfired in embarrassing fashion. Richard Stearman stunned Anfield when he headed home a minute in and Andreas Weimann then double the Championship struggler’s lead before the break. Divock Origi did pull one back for Liverpool late on, but they could not find an equaliser and it was Wolves who progressed to the fifth round.

Their reward for that huge win at Anfield? A home tie against a Chelsea team that have opened up a commanding lead at the top of the Premier League. The Blues have lost just one of their last 18 competitive games and they have made light work of their previous two opponents in the FA Cup, putting four past Peterborough United and Brentford in comfortable wins. Both of those ties were at home though and Chelsea’s recent away form has been underwhelming with just one win in their last four. So can Wolves really spring a massive upset and claim another high-profile scalp?

If they are going to send the Blues packing they will need to improve on their recent form. Wolves have lost back-to-back games in the Championship and I do not see them avoiding a third straight defeat in all competitions. Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is likely to give some of his fringe players a run-out but even then they should have the required quality to bring Wolves crashing back down to Earth. I expect the Premier League leaders to win this match by a couple of goals.

I also expect to see Michy Batshuayi continue his perfect scoring run in this competition. Batshuayi has – unsurprisingly – not been able to force his way into the starting XI in the Premier League due to the form of Diego Costa, but the 23-year-old Belgian has been given opportunities to impress in the cup competitions. Batshuayi has featured in both of Chelsea’s FA Cup ties so far and he has made the most of his opportunities by scoring in each of those outings. I expect him to get another chance to start on Saturday evening and I am confident he will reward Conte with a goal.
