West Bromwich Albion v Arsenal Betting Tips Explained

It is hard to imagine that this would ever be said about Arsenal, but last weekend’s 5-0 victory over non-league Lincoln City was just what the doctor ordered. The Gunners had gone into the quarter-final clash in miserable form having won only two of their previous six games, while crashing out of the Champions League after 5-1 defeats in both legs of their last-16 tie with Bayern Munich. A sequence of three defeats in four games had also sent them sliding out of the top four in the Premier League, so the last thing they needed was a gigantic upset at the hands of Lincoln.

The non-league outfit had made history by dumping out two Championship clubs before stunning top-flight Burnley at Turf Moor in the last-16, and they enjoyed a successful first 45 minutes at the Emirates Stadium as they appeared poised to go into half-time on level terms with Arsenal last Saturday. However, Theo Walcott snatched the opening goal in added time at the end of the first half and the Gunners ran away with it from there, wrapping up a 5-0 victory as confidence grew.

“We have been short of confidence after some disappointing results recently,” manager Arsene Wenger said afterwards. “When the confidence was there in the second half, our quality came back.”

Of course, Arsenal are facing a serious step up in quality when they return to Premier League duty on Saturday, and they desperately need to pick up three points after seeing the gap between them and the top four reach five points. West Bromwich Albion are their hosts and the Baggies go into this match having won seven of their last nine league outings at The Hawthorns.

However, they have lost each of their last two Premier League games without scoring a single goals, losing at home to Crystal Palace and away to Everton, and that is not ideal form to be in going into this clash with Arsenal. The Gunners may not be flying right now and their away form may not be great, but that win over Lincoln will have been a massive confidence boost and I believe they can enjoy another successful outing at The Hawthorns, where they have been rather successful in recent years.

Arsenal have found clean sheets hard to come by away from home so I fancy the Baggies to grab a goal in a losing effort, while at the other end of the pitch I am backing Theo Walcott to continue his good run of form in front of goal. Walcott is enjoying his best goal-scoring season in the top-flight since 2012/13 and he goes into this match having scored three goals in his last four appearances. It would not shock me to see him keep that good run going at The Hawthorns.
