Wales v Panama Betting Tips Explained

2016 was a sensational year for Welsh football as the national team progressed all the way to the semi-finals of the European Championships – providing the biggest surprise in this competition since Greece won it in 2004 – but they were unable to reach the same heights in 2017 and for that reason they will be forced to watch next year’s World Cup unfold on the television.

A 1-0 defeat to the Republic of Ireland on the final night of qualifying denied them a second crack at qualification via a two-legged play-off, and that means they have been resigned to playing a couple of friendly matches to close out  the year. The first of those games was a 2-0 defeat to France on Friday night, with Antoine Griezmann and Olivier Giroud getting on the scoresheet, but it was not all bad news for Wales last week, as manager Chris Coleman seemingly ended months of speculation about his future by suggesting he will stay on for the Euro 2020 qualifying campaign.

“I enjoy it [managing the national team] - the feeling is still very, very good and positive,” Coleman told reporters. “The players deserve everything I have got because they have always given me everything. With me or without me, they will go on and achieve but I don’t look at these two games and think it’s the end of anything… the job is to make sure we are still building as a nation and we are competitive.”

Retaining the services of Coleman would be a massive boost for Wales as they look to bounce back from their World Cup heartache, and a friendly win on Tuesday night would be a positive end to the year for them. But will Coleman’s side halt a sequence of back-to-back defeats by beating a Panama team that made history by qualifying for the 2018 World Cup – the first time this national team has featured in the biggest tournament in international football?

My answer is yes. Panama have obviously done brilliantly to book their Russia, but they have just lost an international friendly against Iran and their away form makes for miserable reading – they have lost four of their last five games on foreign soil, have won only one of their last eight and have failed to score in four of their last five away defeats. Wales’ record without Gareth Bale is pretty dismal, but they should have enough about them to win this match, keep a clean sheet and offer Coleman another incentive to extend his deal.
